Film Night: Next - Simon & Schuster WTF and Winchester Book Fair

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] jezzabe! Hope you had a great day!

Went to see NEXT with Nicholas Cage

Pretty good, actually. A nice action film with that "edge" that NC gives to a film. If you liked Con Air, I think you'll like this, although the script is not so good. It will make you think, and I for one came out of the cinema in the same frame of mind as i did for The Matrix. "could it be?" sort of thing.

NC's hair is irritating, but he should learn to go bald gracefully. Flossie is believable and not altogether helpless and Moore plays a good/bad FBI agent. There's a few levels to it, so it will (should) make you think.

Please check out Simon & Shysters new policy/contracts. They are now holding perpetual rights. That's not good. At all.

Finally - I'm (depending on how much it is - I haven't had the application form yet) considering having a stall at the Winchester Book Fair. Anyone want to come and support the lone pornographer if I do? S[are chair, flask of soup and bitchy comments for anyone who pops in.

I'd have to see the original text from Simon and Schuster before I have an opinion. So far this is a third-hand summary of what someone claims to have read. I couldn't find a link to S&S or a source document.

Some Romance publishers try for perpetual rights in their standard contract. This can be negotiated away.

::endlessly sceptical until seeing the source::

I trust Dear Author - but I back tracked and found that the source was The Authors Guild

http://www.authorsguild.org/news/simon_schuster_appears.htm

I'm not going to question them! I will change my post.

When is the Winchester Book Fair? I'm made up that there's something like this in the UK (after hearing of all these cons in the US I can't possibly go to.) My house moving still persists in being a nightmare and I still have no idea when I'll be moving - which throws a crimp in any other plans - but I'd *like* to come.

I think it's the second weekend in June - but I'm thinking twice about it, a friend on myspace says that I'm unlikely to sell anything... and I can't see that my networking in a non erotic writers place will be helpful.

I'll see how much it is. It's a long way to go. I wanted to go to Lincoln, but that's tomorroow and i've left it too late.

Winchester is too far for this homegirl, sorry!

I'm kind of thinking its a bit far for me - about four hours i think....

Ja, incorrigibly nosey mich auch for the Winchester book fair - isn't Jane Austen buried there too? Authors live and dead! Still picking up jaw from the sight of the train fare thence though - £19.20 for 1 hr journey??

I'm beginning to think it's a bit far...

[identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Somewhere in Hampshire - used to be the capital of England!

On quick mapcheck looks to be about an hour from me - beep me if you go, my car needs an outing which is not the 20mph crawl to work :)
