It's a prequel - six episodes only - I believe because the Spartacus actor has had a cancer scare and they wanted to keep the franchise going. And yes, m/m action all over the place - Barka has an earlier man (as you can see) and much of the story is how Battista got to bewho he is, and Crixus and his rising through the ranks.

Well worth watching!
