Ladies Wot Literary Lunch

I did lunch with Madelynne Ellis. squee! I was utterly terrified. This lady has some serious publishing cred and has the beautiful Pure Folly coming out in May – that’s the one with this lovely cover (quite the nicest I’ve seen this year, and just the sort of cover that gay historical romance should be having imho)

But she was utterly charming, pretty and funny – she did her best to put me at my ease and we chatted for 3½ hours(!) without drawing breath. I gave her a copy of Transgressions which I hope she likes and she told me about her latest projects which sound very exciting.  I was lucky enough to read Pure Folly when she writing it and it’s a nice little novella. Has everything you need – attraction, very nice sex scenes, and a great mystery which was nicely gothic. Can’t review on Speak Its Name, but I’ll certainly review on my LJ.  She was my first ever meeting from writerly world online and now I’ve broken my literary duck and she didn’t run away screaming from the blobby Erastes then I will definitely meet others. I’ve been too hermitty too long and i need to stop being so damn shy. It’s only fat – it’s not leprosy.

Then I dropped in at Dad’s on the way home, as it was on the way, and I realise that I need to see him more than once a week. Perhaps I’ll go over on Wednesdays or something as well in future. I love him a lot (and he’s so enthusiastic about everything I do) and he is 81 – who knows how much longer I’ve got?

He had some books for me to pick up: An Ungodly Child by Rachel Green,Turncoat by Jim Butcher, A Hidden Beauty by Jamie Craig (another BEAUTIFUL cover), and Confessing a Murder by Nicholas Grayson.

OH GOD – WHAT TO READ FIRST. and don’t say Turncoat. I can’t. I’m still catching up on the back books, and I’ve just stared White Night…

Books. booksbooksbooksbooksbooksbooksbooksbooksbooks. It’s like porn to me.

Hey, those are the same two boys from the covers of False Colours and Transgressions! They are some busy!

Are they? I don't know - blond and dark, definitely but i think the guy on PF is more slender perhaps? The blond is definitely different - the nose is slim, not squat.

They aren't the same 2 cover models on TransG and FC - I asked. But the similar pose makes it hard to tell. And I think the blond above has a much longer, narrower jaw.

I'm a hermitty crab too and am shying further and further away from things. Online life is so much easier because nobody has to see me. I've even given up on the idea of going to that convention. You are brave for meeting up. I'm glad you had such a lovely time :)

I shall seek you out one of the years, see if I don't. I'll be the blobby one on your doorstep with teh stuffed meerkat.

And I shall haul you over the threshold (shyly, of course) and present you with lovely food to feast upon for we are the blobs from the pod!

We could take a leaf out of Alexsandr's book...he be soo thin! All the jumping around in the library, no doubt!

Go look at one of the sites like SB that links to romance writers conventions.

There are some writers who are pretty, slim women who could model their own covers.

Many of us are over 40 (or 50), overweight, and so not glamourpusses that it's almost comical.

My wife is a size 20-something who looks like someone's grandma, and she is the most beautiful woman in the world.

Don't beat yourself up. What you write is who you are, and what you write is glorious.

Oops sorry for jumping into a thread ... but yep, ditto everything Crawling_Angel said.

hey, darling - you are welcome wherever you appear.

And you are gorgeous, and I am so proud of you I could burst.

Oh, well, now that I know you're not a skin and bone size six supermodel, I feel that I can't possibly speak to you again. It makes no difference that I think you're rather amusing and quite talented too. You're not skinny and therefore none of this matters a jot! Pah!
