(no subject)

Do I have anyone on my flist who speaks Irish Gaelic? If so, I'D REALLY love a tiny tiny bit of translation done for Standish? I got it all from a translation site, but I don't know if it's at all accurate.

*beggses*

I'll give you a nice acknowledgement!

If nobody on your flist can help, I can ask around my writing lists or SCA lists. I have a friend who's connected to a lot of scholarly Celtic-oriented email lists and I'm sure she could find somebody.

I don't, but I have a friend in the choir who does, to some extent. I'll be seeing him next weekend, if that's any use!

squee!

Can I email you the phrases?

Certainly! Can't promise anything, I know he does speak some, and I've seen him translating bits and pieces (odd words here and there), but it's worth a try. What is it you need? English-to-Gaelic, or the translation-site stuff checked for accuracy?

Well I have irish words in there, but I stupidly didn't make a note of what the idiot man is SAYING, so I'll send it - actually fuck it, i'll put it here.

He calls Ambrose "Luran" a lot, which I understand means something like darling.

and he says this when Ambrose is giving him a blow job

“Arist, m’eudail, tuilleadh…tagaim!”

Which I made up at the time from dictionary sites and probably means, "oh yes, harder, like that, "

But it may not, so if you friend can come up with a few words I can put in there instead, it would be very appreciated.

THANK YOU!!!

*giggles* That's going to completely flabbergast him. I'll bet he's never been asked to translate phrases for a blow job before! (He's an electrical engineer...)

I've seen m'eudail somewhere before but I think it was supposed to be Scots Gaelic - I don't know how similar they are. *checks* - yes, I've got the glossary in the back of The Seventh Swan (Nicholas Stuart Gray), which says that m'eudail means 'my darling'.

aaahhh

Are you using Irish, Gaelic, Welsh, Breton, Manx, or Scots Gael?

Well, my character is Irish, poor Irish, in 1820, so whatever he would speak back then.

Give me about....three hours and I'll see what I can do. If that's alright?
