I've been phoneless for a couple of years (cell/mobile that is) because well, basically - I have no life and no bugger ever rings me on it. But now I have my dad to worry about, and my car is getting older I thought it was about time I crawled back to the tekkie age.

However, not THAT tekkie - I'm not buying a new one, in fact the one I bought - THIS ONE - has been upgraded, not once but twice, and the latest model has been replaced too!  But: I wanted a phone that flipped open (yes, I'm a geek) and I wanted a camera and this has both, even if it's not terribly "modern".   Plus it has a bluetooth ear piece (hee!) so I can pretend that I've been mind-napped by the Cybermen.  (Geek, remember?)

Phone Book: 1000 entries.  Hahahahahahaha.  Oh the irony.   But does anyone KNOW what all this gunk means?  What, for example is "Mobile Concatenation"?  Sounds complicated.  And what is "PIM Functionality"  Does it make Pimms as well as doing all that other stuff? And great. reminder alerts.  Another piece of inanimate crap telling me that I have no life.

I have an O2 Ice, which looked wonderful in the ads, but isn't quite as good as I'd hoped. The sound quality of the ring-tones is crap - I can barely hear them even with the volume turned right up, and there's no facility (it seems to have been generally phased out) for creating one's own ring-tones, so I can't have my Star Trek fanfare any more. Though I have got the opening bits of the Harry Potter theme music instead... It came with a bluetooth earpiece, which I managed to lose earlier this year, so since I didn't use it except in the car and they don't fit in my ears anyway, I replaced it with a car-only box that clips onto the sun visor.

I've always been a bit wary of the flip-phones, even though they're geekily Trekkish, because I always worry that the hinge will break.

I believe that a 'PIM' is a Personal Information Manager. But I could be wrong.

making your own ring tones? is that possible? *is luddite*

My last phone was a flippy and they are more robust that you'd think. And so wonderful to do Trekkie impressions to. Shame they don't make that noise when you open them.

Personal information manager?

These days I believe you're supposed to download 'ring-tones' (aka stupid loud music from boybands) from Teh Intarwebs. My last phone had something like 47 built-in ring-tones, and one 'compose your own' one - it told you how to enter notes, and make them longer or shorter and so on, so of course I immediately (well, laboriously!) put the Star Trek fanfare on. But I don't think any phones now have that, and though - theoretically - I can put an mp3 onto this one, the volume is simply not loud enough. I did try. *cries* I think there were two 'ring-tones' on it when I bought it, and both were trilly musicky things that I'd never have known was a phone 'ringing'. At least with the Star Trek one I always knew it was mine!

That's very like my phone, actually. Which gets about as much use as yours. :)

Have you searched online for the manual for your phone? The "Mobile Concatenation" business is beyond me, but then, I haven't even figured out how to load numbers in mine, yet. ;)

Congrats on the phone - I actually refuse to have a bluetooth attachment because I'm afraid the Cybermen will use it to control me. Stupid, I know - next thing I'll be making a tinfoil hat to protect myself from the government's brain rays...

I have a magenta RAZR because it looks exactly like a Trek communicator, only pink. Which is so me.

If your phone will take .mp3 ringtones and you can bluetooth it to your computer, you can make it play whatever you want to, really.

Mine's a *has to look* Uhhh...Samsung silver thingy with a slidey-up top. I too wanted a flippy one but ended up with this for Christmas a few years ago from the other half. I wanted to do "Beam me up Scotty" in the middle of Asda. Now, I just nick Dave's Pebble do to that. (I bet you don't even spell Pebble like that...t'is Pebl!!! Yes, I'm not a tekkie too...just a Trekkie maybe?)

*lols @ Pimms function* That would be soo cool but I'd have to have a voddy function personally. The Mobile Concatenation sounds scary to Puss. :/

Well, a) no bluetooth on this ancient PC, and b) I copied the mp3 off the old phone and onto the new one via their respective cables, and the volume dropped by about 50% in comparison. And I have no way of making mp3s any louder than this computer will produce - I trid composing the tune in Noteworthy, it sounded fine on the PC and was almost inaudible on the phone. So I gave up.

Oh, you have to turn it on, or you don't get the cute little blue light flashing! (Though, of course, you needn't connect it to the phone...)
