I'm in love with a Wizard called Harry
Dec. 3rd, 2007 10:37 pmI'm in love with a Wizard called Harry
a man who's both clever and brave
and I was going to write up a poem
but I couldn't think of any decent rhymes.
No. Not THAT pillock, I'm talking about the quite wonderful Harry Dresden, Wizard P.I. the only practicing wizard in America. He's in the phone book.
I'm sure a lot of people - specially Americans, as I understand there was even a show made of the series of books -HAVE already heard of him, but some Americans I've been talking to online haven't heard of him, and neither have any of my English RL friends either.
If you like Sam Vimes and Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe.
If you like your magic to make a little bit of sense, and for magic to be ACCOUNTABLE *coughJKRcough and that means more than a lopsided justice system*- in this series there are rules of magic and death is just about the only sentence.
If you like a man to save the world (while EVERYONE tries to kill him, not just one madman in June) using more than Expelliarmus and who doesn't get rescued by handy plot devices like appearing elves and Sueper-phoenices....
then you'll love the hard bitten Wizard Detective! I love him! I've read two books and am happily gallumphing through the third....
Official site ---- WIKI (probably spoilers, I'm not looking...)
