www.casebook.org has a wealth of information about Jack the Ripper's London, including maps and first-person descriptions of daily life in the Whitechapel area. I used this site extensively in a Sherlock Holmes story I wrote.

I don't know if you might find it helpful or not, but I've been having a lot of fun with this set of pages on Japanese history.
This is just one part of a huge sprawling interlinked site with lots of pix.
http://www.geocities.com/azuchiwind/samurai.htm
Geocities is refusing to go to some of the links, but it's worth trying.
It's also very funny, talking bluntly about the real history vs. the tourist version vs. the videogame versions.
I wnadered onto it via Oda Nobunaga, who is one of those "bad guy" antiheroes most people condemn but who the site's writer really likes, along with his page Mori Ranmaru.

Just off the top of my head, here's a few I think might be useful.

I see you have a link to the St. Gabriel Dutch list, but I'd also suggest their main page for Medieval/Renaissance names - http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/

The Domesday Book Online - http://www.domesdaybook.co.uk/

The Internet Medieval Sourcebook – lots of primary documentation, maps, etc. from Fordham University - http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/sbook.html

Multiple versions of the Bible so your homophobic preacher can get it right - http://www.biblegateway.com/

When you need a book instead, Worldcat Online has a searchable database of most libraries, including some not in the U.S. - http://www.worldcatlibraries.org/

Not me, personally (yet, anyway - I might one day do a Japanese novel, but OMG the research scares me rigid) but I'll happily add it to the list, someone will be grateful, I'm sure - Thank you!

Thank you for the links. I've added them to my delicious page.

I also wanted to say that I just bought "connections" and made a point of reading "Ten Kisses" first. I really liked it. As a matter of fact, I thought the whole anthology was great; I read it on the plane home from San Francisco yesterday and the time just, er, flew.

So thanks for both the links and the good read.

This is esoteric, but it's a collection of menus from the mid 1800s through 1910s in the United States. Check out what people paid for lunch, and what kinds of food they ate.
