Just realised I hadn't squeed about it.

Definitely one of the best ones I'd seen. Unsurprisingly by Steve Moffat, which bodes so well for him taking over from RTD. It had everything, memorable characters, pointless and very horrible deaths, and a really really scary moment which literally made the short hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Great to see Alex Kingston, although I have to say  that I found the Doctor's bafflement at who she was really REALLY irritating. Hello?  TIME LORD!  She's from your future!! Do you need a placard?  *back of the head with a plastic cup*

I said: "Who's Alex Kingston when she's at home, and why is everyone getting so excited about her being in DW?" Then I looked her up on Wikipedia, and found out she's been in ER, which I don't watch, and had been married to Ralph Fiennes. And I didn't much care for the character, she was far too "Oh, I know everything about you, but I'm not going to tell you" smug. And after the Doctor met the Daleks for the first time and killed them off, when they knew him from many previous encounters, back on Skaro in the days of Hartnell, you'd have thunk he'd have at least a bit of a clue.

Did you see the DW Confidential? I've been in that library in Swansea, though not (I think) in the domed room. They've moved the main library down into County Hall on the seafront now, so it's within walking distance for my Mum. Also, the huge hall in the first shots was in the Brangwyn Hall in the Guildhall, which is just round the corner from her!

I first loved her in Moll Flanders which was a few years ago now. I did watch her on ER but was never really convinced by the character, she tended to whine. A lot.

No, I don't have cable/satellite yet, very annoying!! What a lovely place it looked! An empty library the size of a planet. What bliss.

I like your theory about the little girl.

I thought the whole thing was extremely well done, but that last scene was like like a symphony with the voices repeating over and over:
"Donna Noble has left the library; Donna Noble has been saved."
and
"Hey! Who turned out the lights?"

But yes, the thing with Alex Kingston's character was annoying. And unoriginal. It was a straight lift from the beginning of 'The Time Traveller's Wife'.

I kept making The Time Traveller's Wife comparisons too. Although now my money's on her dying by the end of the second part. Wouldn't that be all time-travel neat and tidy? It's the first time he's met her, and the last time she's with him. Then he'd have to decide whether to look in the book of spoilers--like some sort of time travel moral test--and he'll toss it out. Back in the TARDIS. End scene. My guess, anyway.

The bit that really got me shaking was when the swarm jumped into his suit.

ARGH!!

i liked that chanting bit, it was rather "chanty" and unnerving

I like Carries suggestion below about the nice circle if Kingston's character dies.

That would make a nice cyclic and very Who-ish ending!!

[livejournal.com profile] erastes, I'm sorry for comment hijacking, but I have to say: book of spoilers needs to be an icon. I can't tell you how long I chuckled over that.
