3k yesterday. *pleased* and the relationship has finally started to kick in. Not that it took 20k to get that far(!) as at least 10k of the word count is towards the end of the book, in the mad jig-saw puzzle way I write.

I emailed my editor at Perseus yesterday to ask if it was OK if I were to start sending out Junction X to publishers/agents etc.  I'm sure they'll be fine with it but I don't want to breach my contract accidentally. Perseus has the rights over "gay historical romance" I write, but JX isn't technically "historical" (being based in the 1960's) and it's not technically "Romance" either as ... well, for the reasons that make a romance a romance, without being completely spoilery.  You never know, they may ask to see it anyway, which would be great, but if not, it's still best to keep your publisher in the loop.

Now of course, if they say "ok" - where the blinkerty blink do I send it to? I feel all unsure again, just like I was when I first started out.

Congrats on your word count!

And a question: how do I get one of those shiny progress bars?

Thank you!

This is where I got this one from, but a google search on "wordmeter" should throw up others.

Thank you!

I googled before, but I just didn't use the right word.

But those are good problems to solve.

You could just ask them if they'd be interested in having a look--if you don't have any other places you want to send it. If they pass... no harm done, if not--maybe another sale. Not a bad thing.

I sort of hinted at it - i'm such a wuss! Otherwise I'll just have to start sending it out cold. I'm on the fence too about whether to TRY to get an agent as I'd been trying for so long before. It galls me a little that if one came on board now, they'd benefit from the deal with RP when they didn't raise a finger to help achieve it. But without an agent, the mainstreams are unapproachable, or a lot of them at least. Serves me right for writing a non-romance tragedy!

Yes, I shouldn't complain. But I do hate the whole sending out cold process.
