May I indulge myself with the love of the genius Bill Bailey today? And hopefully introduce him to some of you that have never seen or heard him, or perhaps you have, in a television series such as Black Books, Hustle or films like Hot Fuzz.  He's one of the comedians, like Tommy Cooper (imho) who are just funny by themselves. He makes me laugh just standing still.

What you may not ever have seen is his stand-up, and for that he has my undying passion. He's not only a sci-fi geek, a Trekkie and general elf-lord, but he's a bloody brilliant musician (although you may not guess this from his appearances on "Never Mind the Buzzcocks") - his standups usually involve him playing instruments and exploring music through the genres he likes, such as

Cockney Music

Doctor Who (stay tuned for the Belgian Jazz version) "C'est lui, dans la nuit... Doctor Qui."

Foreign Ambulance Sirens

and the utterly utterly brilliant Kraftwerk spoof, which I've recced before, but doesn't get any less funny.

the IIBB stands for "Is It Bill Bailey?" which was the name of the series - I believe the entire series is on Youtube and I highly recommend them!

We saw his Part Troll live show several years ago. Absolutley fantastic!! Although he's ruined Grieg for me because evry time the piano concerto gets to that key point I have to say: "Have a banana!" I'm fascinated by the way he seems to wander almost aimlessly from one topic to another. Genius! Oh, did you ever watch the comedy series Black Books?

He's excellent! He actually has to be a brilliant musician to be able to turn it to such perceptive and (apparently) effortless humour like that. Dry and devastatingly funny!

I love Bill Bailey. I think I mostly watch Never Mind The Buzzcocks for him. He's so surreal :)

Yes! Grieg is ruined for me too.

I adored Black Books, didn't see them all, am trying to catch them all online.

I love Bill Bailey. I could sit and watch him on Youtube all day, lol. I've seen some Black Books but my son borrows the DVDs from a mate and has marathon sessions, lol. I really need to sit and watch them with him one day.

This makes me all nostalgic for the time I saw Bill Bailey doing the Kraftwerk thing live! I don't think anything will ever top the moment when the audience realised that, yes, he's really doing that, and he's going to carry it off for an entire five minutes. *wipes away tear*

I really wish I'd seen that live I would have died on the spot. I was - still am - a big Kraftwerk fan and went to see them on the rare times they ventured over here and that spoof has it so right!

He's just so wonderfully mad and intelligent, while coming over as some uber-geek-yokel, it's all very clever.

Isn't it wonderful? I would have loved to have been in the audience when they first did it. How they kept straight faces, I can't imagine.
