THESE!

Gorgeous Gothic Birdtables!  Want want want want want!  Far too dear, I'm looking for something about £20 as mine is on its last legs, but I adore these!  Look at the Cathedral one! Oh why do I have champagne tastes and beer money?

The old tagline of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous--"champagne wishes and caviar dreams"--describes you very well.

And I like the light brown one shaped like a castle tower.

Yes, actually they are gorgeous and I want one, too :D

But, how do you keep your cats away from them?

They are better now. Lucius used to bring down a bird from time to time but they get more of a kick watching them from the window. They also get told off if they bring a bird in, and it's confiscated alive or dead so I think they've just learned there's no point to it. They are very very clever. And Lili is too attached to her radiator!!

The 'grapenhall' is the one I want. Alas, it is £140!

I think a reasonable fascimile could be made, if I can find a jig saw...

If you can do it, I'll swap you a fat greedy cat and a manky history textbook!

*wants too*

Much better than our feeble attempts. The birdies still appear to love them tho...

I shall work on my talented husband on your behalf, see if he'll make one!

Wee Mad Amelia, Observer of Squirrels, approves of these birdfeeders.

They are gorgeous, and they look like fairly simple designs.

An artist friend of mine (she works in glass, absolutely the wrong medium) suggests you make a maquette (sp?) from stiff cardboard and then use 1/4" plywood after you have the pattern perfected.

ha ha! yes, simple - I actually drew the castle one on card last night - it's just a five sided design, all the same...

but this takes for granted that I have ANY skillz in doing angled cuts (see I don't even know the terms for it...) and jigsawing...

Yes, the birdies don't care! :)

Some DIY stores will do cuts for you if you buy the plywood at their store--at least in N. America. I'll bet yours do, too. Faster, safer, and still less expensive than buying the assembled model.
