I made Mel Keegan get an LJ. Hah! Fear me.

There's a wonderful review for I DO! over here: Was very gratifying to read:

My absolute favorite of the group was The Snow Queen by Erastes (m/m) featuring Josh who is trying to recover from losing his lover when he meets Sean and Sean’s daughter Bess at the London Zoo. The attraction and chemistry is strong enough to tempt both men out of their safe, comfort zones to pursue the other man. ...deleted for spoilers... A beautifully told story, I was absolutely left wanting more and wish this is expanded in the future.

Hurrah!

Want to watch me write?  Don't think this will be a regular thing, but if you can stand the slug pace, trip over to http://etherpad.com/Qjnkc6hryx and poke me with the stick of non-procrastination.

ETA:  Finished now, it was great and I actually did 1600 words in under an hour. I'll definitely do that again.

Mmm, Mel Keegan. Spotted and friended earlier - poor man - but I thought 'Well, if he didn't want friends he wouldn't have got an LJ, would he!'

1600 words in under an hour

That's impressive!

Which reminds me, I was going to comment about that particular story myself and completely forgot. D'oh!

I can only echo your reader above. It was a glorious read, sweet and very believable. I really liked the way you wrote both male characters, and I too was left wanting more.

Actually, I really enjoyed the whole book, but yours was definitely one of the highlights.

That's very kind of you, I do like those men, and I felt rather mean leaving it like that, I may have to make more of it at some point. Sadly Linden Bay sold to Samhain, and S aren't printing novellas, so I've been hunting around for another publisher that does. It will be a first, me doing a contemp novella!!

thanks again!

I'm sure he'll get lots of friends, that man knows how to market well!

Thank you, it was rather nerve wracking having people watching over my shoulder as it were as I wrote, but inspiring too. I couldn't just stop and go and play some online game for an hour (or six) ...

He used to have a LJ which I friended ... then he erased it... now he has a new one...

... and the timing is rather off for me.

Petty and still sore as I am. I will buy and enjoy every book but from now on keep my distance from his blog... I think that would be best...

My friend Megan Hart does it regularly and seems to find it inspiring. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, I remember when Mel had a journal before, too. I hope this one takes.

What is it about etherpad that makes people want to use it? How does it help to make you write faster? Is it the sense that you might be being watched, or does it have deadlines and alarms and stuff?

No, it's just like Wordpad and a chatroom combined.

No alarms, no deadlines, no targets. But it certainly worked for me. I suppose it was that there were people watching that I felt compelled to forge on and write and write, whereas I would probably have stopped several times and gone off to do something else, refresh my flist, watch something online, play a stupid game, refresh my flist.... It kept me focussed, and that's obviously what I need. I won't do it so publicly in future, except rarely, but I'll certainly do it with a list of trusted people who want to watch.

It was sort of like doing a live excerpt!

1600 words in an hour is certainly an impressive rate! I will try it myself tomorrow and see if it shames me into upping my game a little. I certainly need something to motivate me to tackle this chapter that I started with the wrong POV and now have to completely re-do. If I could do 3200 in a whole day I'd be jumping up and down with glee :)

But it will mean revealing how dreadful my first drafts are! Not a nice thought ;)

I don't think it matters about what your work is like - you aren't doing it for others, even though others might be watching - in the end you are doing it for yourself, so there's no reason to change your working in the slightest. I've found it very interesting to watch others write, the different ways that it happens.

Heh. wrong pov. tell me about it, i had to change the entire book to first from third. Invite me if you do it!

In fact, that journal was a third party thing: I'd write something and someone else would post it. I never actually saw LJ before Erastes "made me" get into this ...

It didn't need too much "arm twisting" because I've been told many times, LJ is a great place to get the word out for what one, uh, does! (Writing is the easy part. Marketing is a seven headed monster that doesn't know how to quit.)

Journal-wise, my main concern is time. You probably notice that my posts are brief by comparison with others here: no time, guys. I seem to fight the clock 24/7 ... am I looking forward to retirement? You bet. Am I old enough to be thinking about retiring any time soon? Alas, no. I have a long way to go.

Speaking of which -- gotta go back to work!
