ETA2: SORTED NOW - thanks mainly to [livejournal.com profile] aigooism

ETA: I’m not getting ANY erastes@erastes.com email either obviously, which is a bit of a bloody disaster.

I'm absolutely steaming mad right now. My website has been down, STILL down - as is the Erotic Authors' Association site. I thought it was a wordpress problem, but once I saw the EAA was down, I realised it couldn't be that.

I’ve emailed the hoster twice, no reply. So then I went over to her Livejournal to leave a message on her inbox and found the information I needed – ON HER LIVEJOURNAL!!!

I’m bloody staggered. 1. She’s not on my Flist and 2. Even if she was, I don’t read my flist thoroughly every day and 3. I wouldn’t expect that kind of BUSINESS INFORMATION to be on someone’s livejournal.  I mean – not everyone even has a livejournal. She’s running a business. It’s not my job to go chasing her for that kind of vital information, it’s her job to inform her paying customers about vital website updates.

Stunned. Really. As soon as my contract is up, I’m out of there.

Dude, WHAT? Um. (I can recommend DreamHost as host. It's easy to set things up and their customer service is very reliable and fast, from my experience.)

*jawdrops*

As well as being rude, and ridiculously stupid, it's... unprofessional.

Thank you, I will certainly be heading their way!

Entirely. It's not a hobby, it's a business. Would you put "I'm sorry, but we are out of bananas" on your Livejournal if you were a supermarket!?

Oh what! That's no good at all :( Is she at least aware of the problem and working to fix it?

I don't know why I am surprised over how poorly some people run their business but I always am. Too many years of working for the family business where you know we let people know when their is a problem and try to fix as soon as possible and make the customer happy.

Oy.

No, I have to fix it, and I don't really know how, I've altered the DNS at the IP site, but it hasn't worked for erastes. The IP owner of the EAA has done the EAA one and that's back up. I'll have to ask the IP people for help, I guess.

Andrew may be able to help this evening, if you get no joy from the IP people. I don't understand this stuff myself, but I can offer you his tech support once he gets home :)

Not worth the pennies, really - I'm just annoyed by the unprofessionalism. "I'm so busy" isn't an excuse. Either you are running a business or you aren't.

*snug*

It's ridiculous - not everyone has livejournal, and I wouldn't have even thought to look there had someone else not spotted it.

It's like they think that "I'm busy" or "my kids haven't been well" is an excuse when you are running a business. I see this with publishers too - it's inexcusable.

That's utterly ridiculous!

I'm afraid I can offer not help at all, just a load of sympathy.

The way I found out my domain service was gone was the day I tried picking up emails and couldn't get a connection. I went to my site and it was gone. The hosting service shut down with no notice.

I'm still trying to get my domain up at a new hosting service, but I lost all of my information so have to do a complete rebuild. Not fun.

Clicked the dragons btw.

This is one of the reasons why I insist on at least holding all of my files myself, if I lost the files it would be awful! i hope you get it sorted out soon!

I'm using HostGator for the Shadowfire Press site--moving my private domain there right now--and I can give them a great recommendation. They have 24/7 live assistance and I've even called them on Christmas Eve at o'dark in the morning and had a minor problem resolved within 15 minutes. Cost is about $5 a month for the basic account.

*mutters about publishers who use excuses like that* I've got one that acts more as if they're a hobby than an actual business. For the last two years I've heard nothing but excuse after excuse for everything under the sun including late royalties payments and statements and why books no longer under contract remain on their site.

Then they wonder why I'm not bloody renewing my contracts! I kid you not.

My favorite excuse from them was a hurricane which came ashore in Texas. The pub owners are located in Utah and Virginia so my question was, 'How does that affect either of you?'

They never did answer that email.

Well I look at it this way, it's a good reason to do that site redesign I've been putting off for about three years. LOL

Coyote and I have the new design started, but we're both so freaking busy right now that we don't have time to finish it. I'm probably going to wind up slapping together something simple just to have a page up with the new releases that will be coming out in the next few months.
