one of the best and funniest posts I’ve read about “writing what you know” for a long time.

So very, very true. The other part of snowshoeing is that you need to be in very good shape *before* you try slogging through the deep stuff.

/me shakes head in bemusement

Next time he should bring ski poles. They help ;p

Ahhhh yes - the joys of trudging through the frozen wilderness with a pair of tennis rackets strapped to your feet...I'll never forget the time I stepped forward and went up to my armpits in soft snow... O_O

Can I ask you a slightly off-topic question?

In the 1700's... did men's pants do up at the front or the back...? I was looking at a picture of a pattern and it looks like hooks and eyes at the back.

?

I think I need to hit the library, maybe.

When you say pants, do you mean overpants or underpants?

Without looking, (I'm a little tipsy, so I'm no use to you tonight, and i'll let you know in more detail tomorrow) I'm pretty sure they didn't change much for several hundred years. Breeches, with a front fall flap at the front. Some did have lacing (and probably other fastenings) at the back to achieve a more snug fit, but i'll come back to you.

LOL. No worries. It was a slight technical detail that I can add in later. As for under and over... both! The drawers are dropping!

Thanks for this. I know very little about male clothing, historically speaking. I've never had a reason before now to wonder ;p

Enjoy your tipsy evening(:
