Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] asthemistclears! Hope you have/had a great day!

I worry about Britain. Now downloading violent porn is going to be illegal. I'm sure they were talking about images, but I bet some arse either forgets to preclude fiction or slips fiction in. Look, of course I don't want real people to be really beaten up for other people's titillation, but there IS another side of that, too.

ALSO: Blair plays Big Brother/Brave New World. Someone shoot him. Please?

The Scream is found! About time too!

Whee! Heard from Iris Print, Connections is nearly done and contributor's copies should be on their way in the next week or two. Cheques too, of course, but my cheque is very tiny, as the story is very tiny, so I've said that she can contribute it to charity if she can't pay me by Paypal - it would cost me more than the cheque is worth to pay it into my bank account, so it's not worth doing.

Book meme gacked from [livejournal.com profile] durins_bane_616

1. One book that changed your life?
Heinlein's "Time Enough for Love" Without a doubt. That book made me me.

2. One book you have read more than once?
Just one? I read all of them over and over.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?
Lord of the Rings I think. Not original, but it is something that you can read over and over and over - AND - under Desert Island Discs rules, I also get the complete works of Shakespeare and the Bible, so that will keep me going. Lots of opportunity for slash crossovers there, at least.

4. One book that made you laugh?
Hmm. Rare. Pickwick Papers. It's bloody hilarious and remains so no matter how many times I read it.

5. One book that made you cry?
"At Swim Two Boys" By O'Neill

6. One book you wish had been written?
One gay romance that had been pitched to Mills & Boon which they couldn't resist, therefore getting them to set up a gay imprint. I'd like to start a petition, anyone with me?

7. One book you wish had never been written?
The Fatal Skin(aka The Magic Skin) by Balzac. I wanted the protagonist to die from page ONE. Whiny whiny GIT. (failing that, The Half Blood Prince)

8. One book you are currently reading?
Re-reading. Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford

9. One book you have been meaning to read?
Morte D'Arthur

OMG - have you seen SQUASHED writers? What brilliance!!!

Hee! I wish my username didn't have these horrendous numbers. What was I thinking?

Also, I'm sick and tired of people making things illegal because they are offensive. If that were the case, I'd have to be illegal.

And the Sqaushed writers thing is irksome. I hold fast my firm stance against abridged works. :)

I think

people are afraid to show others that they secretly like porn and that is why they are making it illegal.

If they would only just relax and be open all this other stuff would stop happening.

Oh I don't like abridged works, but I sort of got the feeling it was more parody than serious - I could be wrong!

Certainly would have saved me from reading that awful awful book.

I know! I guess they are attempting to stop people being exploited - but if Adults WANT to participate in creating these images, and if ADULTS want to see images of it, I don't see the point. OK, I think snuff films are wrong obviously, and real non-con - but it's almost impossible to tell by an image whether something is con or non-con.

*sighs at the Big Brother world she seems to be living in*

It's dreadful. Kiddie porn, yes. But violent porn? How can they tell whether the images are staged or not? And as I said, where does it stop? Is non con in fiction then wrong? *huffs*

They say it's because they can't shut these websites down at source, so they'll blame the users, but it's so stupid. Surely its more cost effective to work internationally and stop ONE site at source rather than attempt to find the 1000s of people who use it.

Tomorrow they're going to outlaw violence during sex altogether. Nevermind that what two adults do together in their bedroom is their business and their business alone, and NO ONE has the right to judge them on what things pleasure them.
