Can someone help me with “Oblivion”?

I’m starting from the beginning again, and have done one whole quest! woo hoo!

The trouble is that the wiki site ASSUMES that you know what they are on about – what I want to “Use” is a potion – specifically turpentine potion against the painted trolls, – when I click on “use” within the game it asks me if I want to tip my arrows with it – is that the right way to do it?  or is there another way—a more effective way to use potions?  Because the bloody arrows tipped with turpentine don’t have any effect whatsoever and I just keep dying.

I mean – look at this bloody helpsheet – I don’t give a stuff about weight and value – I just want to know what to DO with it!!! Can’t I just chuck it in the trolls face?? Or what!?  argh! There’s not one word there about what to do with them.

Oblivion Wikia says this about poisons:

"[Poisons] can be used to inflict extra health damage or other negative effects. With a melee weapon, the poison is only effective after a successful attack. If it is applied to a bow it remains in effect for a single arrow regardless of success. Poisons will always generate the same effects no matter what type of weapon they are applied to."

According to the Brush With Death walkthrough:

"There are at least six painted trolls that tend to be hard to kill. Two applications of turpentine generally kill one painted troll, but depending on your level you may need up to four (see the table below.) Fire damage works as well on painted trolls as standard trolls. If you travel south and a bit west over the rocks from where you start, instead of following the path, you can evade most of the trolls. You will still have to kill the one or two trolls closest to the thief's corpse, but with six bottles of turpentine, this shouldn't be a problem."

So it takes at least two strikes blows with a turpentine-poisoned melee weapon or at least a strike each from two turpentine-poisoned arrows to kill a painted troll. That's because a troll's hit points are 12 + player's level divided by 2. So the lower the level you're at, the easier the painted trolls are to kill.

Also, the painted trolls produce a rare alchemy ingredient called painted troll fat. This is the only place you can get painted troll fat, so it's really really rare.

yes i read all that before i posted, thats why i'm doing it early as it gets harder the higher i go--i still dont understand it. i just think its too technical - does it mean reapply to each arrow--because theres no time to do that when a troll is bashing your head in. i think i'll try sneaking or failing that running like hell. gah

You could also try my trick for the painted trolls (and they are beastly) which is to turn the level of difficulty down until I've murdered them all, and then turn it back up again. I hate those things.

I think it means that you have to find someplace safe and apply the turpentine to every arrow BEFORE you go into combat. That way you'll have enough poisoned arrows for each troll.

I order Frost Fair, I was going to order Standish again but something about summary made me want this book. I just got it today and I just finished it. I loved this story! I loved your characters, I loved the setting of the story. The back ground of it all. (You can tell I just finished because my brain is still melted. Heh.)

The main character: Gideon: I can't say enough how much I love his intro in the start of the book. The very first line

"...and I assure you, Mr. Malter, That as soon as I have the money, you will have it, before I've a chance to buy even as much as a pastry."

That sets him up as such a strong character, as man that is trying so hard to keep his shop alive. To keep himself alive and helps us see what he is like. Not only that its just such a killer line that it will stay with me always.

That is why when the badness happens and he sounds so broken it broke my heart and all I could do is hope for it all to be made better again. It is in away but not unbelievable. It's perfect. (You're writing always is.)

As much as Gideon is so strong and on his own I love that Joshua feels like he needs his friends and is so ready to trust them. Even if it gets him into trouble. It shows so much of their class and of Joshua's need to feel that he fits in some where. He in some ways seems a little younger then Gideon but isn't.

The pair, Gideon and Joshua, are so very well matched.

Now as to the villain of our story: Finn (good name by the way) is so slick, and is almost middle ground between the two lovers that it works. He is a fighter, a loner, but yet wants to hold on to Joshua's friendship almost in away that he is pushing Gideon away from him. Even if it is in his own arms. I liked him. Evil nasty. I loved when Joshua asked him if he destroyed the press he told him he had someone else do it! It was so classic. He so wouldn't gotten his hands dirty. Even if he wanted to destroy Gideon. I love that he almost wins by inches, that its just by mere inches that he wins.

Duncan was really really good, yet, I love that it was young Mordecai that put Finn in his place. Loved that it was him that finally clued in Joshua into everything.

You are such a wonderful writer.

Now I am going to figure out how to rewrite this to post on amazon, you can re-post this any where you want I'll post what ever I write on my LJ too and link the book.

I have to go reread the book make sure I didn't miss anything.

Oh, thank you Gina - I'm so happy you enjoyed it. I actually read a review a couple of days ago that depressed me stupidly - and I shouldn't let reviews get to me - so this bucked me up no end.
