It is snowing. I am happy.
Jan. 5th, 2010 11:25 amFirstly, thank you all for your kindness yesterday. Although I turned off comments, I was touched that many of you took the time to email or PM me, it was very sweet of you and makes me more and more grateful for my little virtual world. I feel a lot better today, and am only concerned about Dad—he rang me early this morning then forgot why he rang me. I assume he woke up and couldn’t find Aslan, but he seems to be taking it better than I expected. Anyway – thank you. There is a local dog shelter in Hickling, so when we go out for lunch on Sunday I’ll swing by there, and we can go and look and see if they have anything small and friendly. (I’ll have to tie my own hands behind my back as I always come out of shelters wanting to take EVERYTHING home. Last time I went to one, with enolabloodygay, I had my heart set on a Bloodhound, a white boxer, four cats and six chickens. She restrained me, thank goodness!)
As for the snow – we are told that we might get as much as 15 centimetres today or tomorrow, whatever 15 cms is in real money.
Secondly - I found this interesting Blog today – where this woman blogs about boys love and m/m writing – and it led me to THIS article which I’d missed back in June about the whole phenomenon (written by the same person)
Putting the tired subject aside, what struck me as this comment from the Romantic Times as they attempt unsuccessfully to rebut something Alex Beecroft is quoted as saying:
Our policy to not include m/m romance in RT Book Reviews is a space issue. Our periodic surveys with our readers tell us that there is not enough interest in this type of book within our general audience to warrant the extra space it would require (since there are so many being published) to review m/m books.
I think my brain exploded with the illogic of that statement. It’s like the old joke: “Why won’t you publish m/m?” said the author to Big Publisher, and Big Publisher says, “God, I’m so bored with this question, you are the millionth person to ask it. There’s no interest in it!!” Surely the very fact that there are “so many being published” negates the statement that there is “not enough interest that that type of book.” Idiocy.
Lee Rowan, quite rightly, goes on to point out that when Romantic Times ran a survey on their forum as to whether there was any interest in the genre, the vote was a resounding yes. Of course, some of the hetero-readers tried to blame this on the fact that people were coming to the board just to vote. D’oh!
