So, here's how it works:

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)

erm. peers at pathetic cd collection.... um.. how about vinyl.

2. Put it on shuffle.

Damages gramophone as attempts to shuffle it with stereo.

3. Press play

That I can do. Nothing happens.

4. For every question, type the song that's playing

?

5. When you go to a new question, press the next button

Next button? Is that like the shop?

6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...

Cool?

Snicker. That's so cute.

Am I sunk beyond reproach that not only do I have an iPod, but also an iBook? I can play with technology just like the big kids now. (All right, all right, I admit it, I never would have wanted an iPod before a year ago, but I like it so much now. I can listen to music a LOT more easily. A lot. I like music.)

Some of my best* music is on vinyl. Early Pulp albums, obscure Radiohead singles. Swedish folk music. Ahhh...

OK, make that "geekiest".

Vinyl sounds classic, like the smell of an old book, or a cup of tea while it's raining. I always feel like vinyl should be played when I can stretch out against the carpet, and eat an apple, and listen.

I wish that I wasn't. I wish I was all up to date and tekkie.

I would love all that - just can't afford it - coz to have all that stuff I'd need a new PC and that seems like a huge expense to go to.

Oh well - next year perhaps!!

Even that's too modern for me.

And the album covers were works of art.

Well, I was very lucky -- I was given my iBook by a writer friend who is a major tech geek and who bought himself a new Macbook, and so I got his two- to three-year-old iBook for free. Wow. Less than two weeks ago. I'm still carrying it EVERYWHERE! And my iPod was my big present last year for Christmas/our anniversary/etc. when my husband was in New Orleans for three months -- kind of a consolation prize. I probably wouldn't have bought it, but I was having to ride the bus, and a CD player or minidisc player was really hard to handle while standing up in a crowd. Now I just adore it. It makes my life so much less annoying. (Since it's video I use it as a grandchild calming tool -- and I just carry all my music around on it...)

But I do know how the finances go. I'd not have been able to afford it normally -- our home computer is five or six years old now (maybe older) and usually we get our components on the cheap and/or from friends who're upgrading and don't mind handing off their excess.

Ah, but do you have a *looks around shiftily* 78 rpm record player and the records from the 1940s to play on it? I do.

I have 78 rpm albums from the time when it really meant an "album" of discs.
I have 45 rpm singles.
I have vinyl albums.
I have 8 track cassettes.
I have cassette tapes.
I have minidiscs.
I have cd's.
I now have mp3s.

Augh. I am a music junkie! Save me! Save me!

(And I can top anyone's geek list -- does anyone else around have a copy of Chairman Kaga from "Iron Chef" singing Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar in JAPANESE? I think not.)

What Swedish folk?

*looks around*

*checks for scary folk police*

I myself have a fondness for the new wave/new age Scandinavian bands, e.g., Hedningarna, Vartinna, Gjarlhorn (which I am spelling wrong, I just know it!), etc.
