Adopt one today! - Adopt one today!Adopt one today! - Adopt one today!

The Pillars of the Earth is a laugh a minute, isn’t it?

Also – JULIAN FELLOWES – I’m disgusted with you. Plagiarism so bloody blatant?  I can’t remember exactly where that rose sub-plot story came from – A Herriot book, or a Wodehouse, or The Railway Children, something of that ilk - (aristocrat is awarded best rose of the village every year because of who she is, whereas a humble gardener really deserves it) but it was lifted almost entirely intact from wherever I remember it.

Shame on you, Downton Abbey – I’m very disappointed with you.

The miniseries was pretty good. I've loved the book for more than a decade, but even I was pleased at how they handled it. And yeah, it's kinda grim. Life is.

I did enjoy Pillars of the Earth, although they did make some inexplicable changes to the book that I will not go into lest I spoil you.

WAAA!

Yeah, the two big deaths really got me.
There are more--lots more, it's a war you know--coming. Brace yourself.

Toe be fair, the book is something of a potboiler. I absolutely tore through it when I was twelve or so and now see that it is rather black-and-white and the characterisation leaves something to be desired, but it is good fun in general, and Follett does, rather shockingly, get a lot of the history correct (which the film then changes for inexplicable reasons).

I wish I'd written it, potboiler or no...

Oh, me too -- potboiler or no, it's a page-turner and I still love it dearly, in spite of its flaws.
