Doctor Who.

Hmm. I have been so in love with this series since it started – yes, literally—and now it seems to be doing everything it can to make me go "meh"

I don't WANT hugely twisty turny complicated plots that range – oh so cleverly and show how clever the creators are—for three series. I don't want my brain to hurt because I can't work out why River is travelling in one direction in time (how the hell does that work anyway, because she always returns to her cell and that's in a fixed point in time and the doctor has BEEN there. and how the hell does she get from her time to his anyway? ) and the Doctor is going in another. What I want is the absolute perfection of Blink, and if I can't have that, then I'll have monsters and lots of running, because that's what it does best. GOD alone knows what kids are making of all this peculiar babble and crap that's going on at the moment. amy's 50 percent pregnant? the doctor falls for the same trick twice? River being TL just because she was conceived on the Tardis? I bet no-one ever explains that. How did anyone know about Melody? The doctor didn't even seem a bit bothered that once he knew who River was, that he'd seen her die. Apparently you get a hint as to why she didn't regenerate then back in teh library, in the library scene, but you know WHAT? I don't want to have to go and buy the series to go and find out this crap.

YES I'M RANTING

I was discussing this with my mate Henri yesterday and she's just as fed up as I am. She made a good point that once upon a time you'd get an introduction to a great character with potential (like the fat thin gay married Anglican marines) and then you'd learn more about them. But no. In this case we are introduced to them, forced to empathise with them, then when something horrible happens to one of them….That's it. We never go back to the other one to find out what happens to him and how he feels. It really feels like "oh, how can we be a bit daring, and put a gay couple in here? show how street we are?" It's gratuitous. and whether its a sex scene or not, if you can lift an element of a plot out without it altering the plot one iota then it's pointless. The marines were only there to introduce the Forest girl (who I have no memory of meeting before, but I suppose i must have) and anyone could have done that.

It shows how "meh" I'm feeling about the whole thing that I don't remember characters. I didn't remember the fat blue guy at all, and had to look him up on the Wiki pages to find we'd met him before. Still don't know what he owed the doctor.

AND WHY are all these people out to kill the doctor anyway? It's just replaying the Pandorica over again, it seems to me. Who are the billions the doctor has killed? Other than Daleks and Cybermen? What did he do to piss off the Clerics?

We both agreed that Matt Smith is still spectacular in the role, it's just he's having to swim in over-complicated goop.

and Rory is TheMan. It shows my level of Meh when I say I'd rather the doctor died than Rory, to be honest.

Game of Thrones.

Still good, still doing good things. It's a shame I know the blooming plot, though!  LOL

Case Histories

SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD to see Jason getting another show. Brotherhood never showed here, and the political thing he was in (can't even remember the name) was truly boring. I've never read the books of this series, but it looks very intriguing – good detective character, good backstory and nice "seemingly simple case which goes all Noir" – love it! Can't wait for more of it, and I hope that this REALLY pushes Isaacs into the public limelight a lot more, as although he does great great baddies, people need to see how he can act, and he can act so many people off the screen.

I agree!
Everyone else is going on about how *clever* and *amazing* this episode was and I feel I must have fallen on my head and missed half of it or half of the previous series or something because I'm soooo MEH!

Brotherhood never showed here

I was realy disappointed because Jason had the most god awful bronx type accent. I watched for 3 episodes then gave up.

I was thinking about posting something very much along these lines myself - well said!

Rory is the man, but the rest is a load of confusing dark and scary stuff. Where's my fun Doctor Who got to? That said, I thought the fun came back slightly in the last episode (I was almost ready to give up on the series), but it was still mighty confusing. Plot holes you could drive a flying bus through...

And what the hell was all that about the gay marines? I felt like they'd left that plot strand hanging for no discernible reason.

It reminds me of what happened to Torchwood in the last series (which I hated and will not watch again) - is it what the BBC feels is necessary to pander to the American market? Was it just too bloody quirky and eccentric the way it was? Bah!

Must say I agree totally re Dr Who, I just don't care much any more, and am tired of all the 'Ooooooh, aren't I so clever?!' timey wimeyness of Moffat's series. Sigh. I love Matt's Eleven and Rory is a great character, but I hate the pregnancy storyline and feel very much as though the series isn't for the whole family in the way it was under Rusty's stewardship. I have loved Alex Kingston since Moll Flanders, but I am getting tired of River Song and really did not want her to be Amy's daughter. Meh.

I wish, too, I didn't know what's coming in GoT. It is going to be tough.
