1. Worrying start to the day. Dad’s next door but one neighbour said he was bashing at her door yesterday and pushing as if he was trying to get in. I listened politely and said that I’d have a word with him but of course he denies it and it worries me that 1. he can’t remember doing it or 2. she’s being malicious for some reason or 3. he had a real problem yesterday afternoon and went to a neighbour for help or 4. why didn’t she open the bloody door and see what he wanted?
She then went on to tell me that he’s “always looking in her windows” which – knowing my dad seems SO unlikely as to be ridiculous. There couldn’t be a person who is more polite and respectful to women .
What I think is – that occasionally he wanders into next door’s garden to check all is well—the house is empty and has has been for many months and he was very close to the couple who previously lived there, it still belongs to them and although they are living with their son now, dad feels a little responsible and likes to keep an eye on the place. While he’s in that back garden perhaps he does look over at this lady’s house, but a peeping Tom, he would never ever be. But perhaps he does—she says he’s “lost and lonely” so why isn’t she at least opening her door for a chat? Or why hasn’t she said anything for five years?
However—I simply don’t know. So it’s a worry. I could do with a few more worries. LOL.
2. It’s ludicrous that different countries are still playing the race card with books and putting white characters on covers when the character is black. In this case it’s Australia which I imagined was pretty tolerant isn’t it?
The author who is in the centre of this latest session of wank (Maisey Yates) says:
there has been a bit of controversy regarding this book, the cover, either the UK cover for its boldness, or the AUS cover for it’s less-than-bold approach
“Boldness”? RLY? Do we have to be “bold” in 2011 to show a white woman and a black man in a romantic relationship? Gah. The Stoopid. It Burns Us.
3. I’ve found a SHEDLOAD of new titles for Speak Its Name. Literally shedloads. I have given up trying to find/buy/review all of them because at the moment I have over 60 in the queue and that doesn’t count most of the titles under this Cut. I did a search on gay historical romance on Amazon and while a couple of years ago you’d have got a very limited selection of fifty or so, just try it now – it’s not only a suggested search but it comes up with thousands of titles. Not all of them are gay historicals—some are written by people called Gay and some are fantasies, but I was blown away but the amount and i’m on page 15 now and am still going strong.
Anyway, here’s what I’ve found so far. No links, I’m afraid, but they are searchable. There’s a stone age one! I mean! Stone age!!! That’s a first, definitely. That’s what I like in this genre that there’s still room for firsts.
