Yeah yeah, no-one's listening to me with the HP news, but...

A couple of people have asked me, in response to my last post, whether I minded being called a Bodice Ripper writer, or being compared to Johanna Lindsey. I can't reply to comments at work, and I don't know what time I'm likely to address their query so I'm answering here.

I have to admit, that I'd never heard of Ms Lindsey, before getting that review, but that's not surprising, I don't read a lot of het romance. It's not a section I wander into in the library. Unless in dreams. Bad dreams! *shudder*

However, no, I don't mind at all! When I first started writing homoerotica historicals, I said to people (in my over-confident way!!!) that I wanted to be the Catherine Cookson/Barbara Cartland of Gay Historical Romance and that I would write "breeches rippers" (although that does, I'm told, sound like someone has farted). If anyone can come up with a better new cliche than breeches ripper the small but thriving genre will thank you.

I would be more than happy to be as prolific and successful as Ms Lindsey. I'd have to up my writing rate by quite a lot though! Two and a bit novels in four years is not probably cutting it.

Good. Do you know? Mrs Lindsey is not so bad... I think is almost 10/15 years I haven't read one of her book, but I rememdered she was very funny. A lot of sex. And in this world where internet is everywhere, she still doesn't have an official site. I image an old nanny who writes sexy stories in an old type machine...

There is NOTHING wrong with being a Bodice Ripper writer! :D I'd sell my eye teeth to be one! Heck, I'd rather be a widely read popular author than some obscure literarian only mentioned in encyclopedias and forced down the throats of captive university students. Go, you. More power, more sales - rock on, dear, you're living the dream. :D

And I forgot one thing: in her romance, Defy not the heart, my favourite, the heroine has a gay valet as lady's maid. He is the first who saw the hero (very tall, blonde and beautiful) and he falls in love for him, but the hero is a little dull, and when finally he marry the heroine, he is not worried about the fact that his wife has a man as maid, but of the fact that this man is interested in him! I think this is the first romance I have read with a gay characters.

*hugs you* So nice to see you!

And yes. I totally agree. I'm not ashamed of wanting to make money, if I can, and I enjoy what I do.

When I write that "enfant terrible" book that everyone will know about but no-one will buy and no-one will understand, I shall publish under my own name. *G*

X-D Too, too true.

I wonder if one day I'll delve into "speculative writing" and publish under Lilian Cho? :-P

I'll use my rl initials when I write children's books, and my full name for articles. Hah!

I told Mom that you were being compared to J.L., who she loves, and now she wants to read Standish after it arrives and I've finished it. o.O

I'll let you know how you do with a member of J.L.'s target audience. O.o
