I have a pet hate today

BLACK WEBSITES!!! Also purple!

Specially with purple, or pink writing. I already have my resolution higher than the recommended and then I have to increase font size to read stuff, or worse - have to highlight the text just to see it!! Don't people realise that it's very off putting for readers?

I even encountered a white website. with white writing. *headdesk* Rather than bothering to highlight the page, I backed up. Which I'm sure a lot of the people who find that website (which is for an indie publisher....) do!

Oh - and has anyone done Tomb Raider Legend? I'm completely stuck on a stupid and simple part - I'm in Cornwall, and I'm trying to ferry a coffin upsteam in a crypt and I can't get my grapple to go the bloody right way. Any tips?? Yes.. I've tried the walkthrough - no help... stupid woman keeps throwing her grapple at the same sconce every time and I can't get her to aim at the scone over the pressure pad...

*screams in temper*

I hear you on the layout issues. Some website, or livejournals as well, are clearly meant not to be read.

And honestly, if I don't absolutely need the information they provide, it's the backbutton for me.

There is always some candidate for the next Darwin Award out there... *g*

I'm with you: if the site's an eye killer, I leave immediately. Nothing is worth that headache.

Funny, I just ran across a black website with purple writing yesterday for the first time, and was really put off. Ended up highlighting because I needed the info it contained. But... white website with white writing?! Uhh, that sounds rather uninviting, to say the least.

Another thing I totally hate are websites with music that cannot be silenced. The black/purple website also made use of that maddening feature. I ran away as soon as I'd found what I was looking for.

White website with white writing? The hell......doesn't that defeats the purpose of having something audience can read and enjoy?

Oh I completely increase my font size to read now. I can't a thing without my glasses now...and seriously? White text on a white backround????

I have a black backround on my LJ but all the text is in white which makes it easy for me to read and I hope everyone else.

:)

I remember seeing or reading somewhere that people with some forms of dyslexia and/or colour blindness actually find some colour combinations such as purple/yellow easier to read, but unless the site is actually aimed at people with those needs, is it really necessary?

You'd think that some kind friend would say 'That doesn't work.' instead of 'Ooh - sparkly!'.

I got Standish yesterday - thankyou so much! *squees*

Also JX last week but not sure you got my reply as not heard from you since. *more squeeing*

Enjoy your holidays.

Nod. I just see what people are playing at. People need to read their sites, but if they can't - what's the point? It's just self-indulgence.

*growls*

I guess I was just wound up yesterday, as I was updating the EAA site, and visiting 20 or so sites an hour....

Too many. And purple. Specially that purple crushed satin background.

*shudder*

Your website is just about perfect btw.

*is guilty of the Black Website*

In my defense, the lettering is pale yellow, a combination I find highly readable.

Yes, that works, I hadn't realised it was yellow, but yes, that's even better than white as a contrast!
