The solicitor has been working away and he's amended the contract to shorten the time allowed by them for publishing.  So we are all happy, and the contract has been signed by me and posted off.

Eeep. It's only just sinking in, I think.  Now I'm thinking cover art...  Unfortunately I don't think much of the covers shown on the PD Publishing webpages, I know exactly the cover I'd like, but I don't know how much say the mere author has in it.  It needs to have the house (inspired by Witley Court) in the middle, because when it comes down to it, the house is what it's all about.  And Rafe, standing up, brooding and dark on one side, probably scowling, with his arms crossed, and Ambrose on the other side, sitting on a log or something, sun in his hair, doing something typically Ambrosey, like reading(!)  God, I'd so love an illustrated version.... *melt*  *g*  The thing that concerns me is that the contract says "the work tentatively named Standish.  They'd better not want to change the name..... *growls*

Anyway, the next step of this long drawn out process is for them to sign it, and send a copy back to me.  After that they have 9-18 months to get it into print, and that means work for me!  Editing.  Oh those commas!!

Will keep you posted!

Very good! Sounds like the lawyer has been useful.

Don't know about your publisher, but most authors appear to report they have no say at all in covers, even established, money-spinning, award-winning people like Lois McMaster Bujold. So don't get your hopes up. Your cover idea sounds good, but will they care?

If Eumenides if right, that'd be excellent! It would be nice if their part of the market is interested in an author's ideas of what would suit her book. And as for the possibilities inherent in the wording "the work tentatively named Standish" - I do hope not! That would be really horrid.

oh you darling! *sniggers* I don't think it will ever be in WH Smiths, but it will be on Amazon, I'm sure of it.

What would be great if I could start a whisper campaign, and every single person I know on LJ goes into their local bookstore, library and emails Amazon and the other big booksellers and says "I hear Standish is going to be published by PD Publishing - put my name down for !"

Hee hee. After all, it was word of mouth that made harry potter, kids reccing it in the playgrounds.

*is ridiculously optimistic*

A step at a time, but what a big step! I hope you get some say in the cover art.

Ah, things went sort of wonky all of a sudden, so lurking seemed for the best.

Hahaha I'm totally going to do that. Let me know when you have the release date and I'm going to spam them with requests until they start stocking it. It will be my mission in life to make them put one on a shelf. :D
