Now this wouldn't do for me, as their submission details say they want WHOLESOME and they might have a problem with teh gay shaggage.  Not that that's not wholesome, it's just that word rather evokes teh fundamentalist stance to me. Hope I'm wrong.

However, I'm sure someone on my flist will find it interesting.

Beachside Press, a small, independent publisher, is accepting well written historical novels, both mainstream and romance. Targeted audiences may be adult as well as young adult readers. Authentic characters, based on their time period, and strong storylines are a must.

Please submit one sample chapter, a 300-word synopsis of the completed work, and an author bio in the body of your email. Submissions with attachments will not be read. Also include a competitive analysis that explains how your manuscript compares to already published competing works as well as a marketing plan (what you can and will do to help sell your book). All this information must be included in the email to have your submission considered.

I was curious to know what the "258" means after the date at the top of their homepage. Typo? Religious significance?

I agree with you. I think wholesome is their codeword for straight (as much as I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt). Somehow, that doesn't bother me as much as Wild Rose Press' list of "elements" they don't want submitted, which begins with "depraved acts" and ends with homosexuality because the editors prefer to "celebrate heterosexual monogamous relationships". Apparently in their minds, those are the only ones worthy of celebration.

I hate to see the word "wholesome" abused.
The gay romances I've read lately have been about real, healing, soul-bonding love. What's more wholesome for your mind and heart than that?

Ick. Wild Rose submissions actually make me feel ill. I'm so tempted to submit something with a tonne of subtext whilst having a monogamous relationship there in the foreground!!!

:)

Gay romance needs celebration because it's love against adversity over the entire board, which het love hasn't had to do - like - ever!
