I’ve just had an email from Dreamspinner Press regarding the above book.

Dear Erastes

As you may have by now seen, this title is no longer in ourcatalog. It will take somewhat longer for it to be removed from the distribution system. We did not undertake the publishing of this title casually. The editorial staff here felt we were unqualified to judge a title based on another work, so we had it reviewed by a copyright lawyer and a professor of literature, who both believed it was suitablefor publication. Be that as it may, with the author’s full support, we have withdrawn the title.

Sincerely,
Dreamspinner Press

As you can imagine I’m pleased about this, and that will be the end of the matter.

It's a victory for intellectual honesty, though I feel bad that the author has gone through the process of getting the book actually out on sale without someone stopping it before she wasted the time and energy. A word in her shell-like ear at an early stage would have spared her blushes and the publisher their money.

A *good* pastiche of Jane Eyre as a gay historical, could be done. I hope someone tries it. Maybe this author will try it, once she recovers from her experience and understands what went wrong.

But I don't think much of the 'professor of literature' if they didn't pick up the borrowed text!
