Well, Lucius is now officially "Missing" - he didn't come in for his dinner last night, or breakfast this morning or his dinner tonight.  My only hope is that he's a greedy guts and if someone is feeding him pouches, rather than tins or biscuits (which he gets here, because pouches for two growing boys are FAR too expensive) then someone may think he's a starving stray and may have taken him in.  I'm very rural, this is only one cul-de-sac in the middle of nowhere,so it's not like he could have wandered too far off so he's either defected, or been catnapped because of his beauty or he's had an accident involving a fox or a shed or something.  Tomorrow I'll print off some flyers and post them through all the letter boxes, and put one up in the post office. The local vet has been informed, and I can't do a lot else, until tomorrow. But it's very upsetting. To say the least. I hope Severus doesn't bog off too.

I hope he comes home soon.

I hope that he's just ensconced in some warm little snug place with lots of food.

He might be locked in somewhere and waiting for the owner of the place to unlock. My own little sod did this - got locked into a partly used garage for a day and returned after me (and the inconsolable daughter aged 9) had held a near-wake. Don't lose hope - and go walk about calling his name and post piccies on lamp posts: "Have You Seen Lucius?"

At least there's not many places to look -I'll definitely get some flyers done tomorrow. I hope I'm soon posting "panic over"

I've got my fingers crossed that he's just being a greedy guts in someone else's house and you'll have him back in no time. *hugs* Hang in there.

Thank you - me too. I always over-react even if they are missing overnight, but this is too long. I hope he's just in someone's house and they don't want to let him out or something.

We used to have a cat called Willum when I was a child. He used to go off (obviously to a better gaff) for days on end, usually if a test match or Wimbledon was on. he once went walkabout for a fortnight.

I do hope your Lucius is doing the same. *hugs*

Oh dear. That's rather worrying when that happens. Still, as others have pointed out, he may just have his face in the trough elsewhere, or have got shut in somewhere. Put a couple of flyers up on lampposts/telephone posts/walls, too - people often stop to look at a large white splodge, where they might ignore something on the doormat. There are a couple up round here at the moment for cats, and one for a stolen bike.

Also, of course, remember he may just have been out for a stroll or a midnight snack, and have been startled by fireworks (which are still going on here, don't know about your area), and have run away a bit out of his normal hunting grounds.

My best friend and her husband were adopted by a cat who they thought was a stray, until they put up notices just in case, and the owner turned up - from just across the road!

Oh sweetie I am so sorry and I know how worrying it is. Both my cats have pulled this before. Thunder was gone for almost 3 days before showing up. I think they go off and have kitty adventures.

Can you microchip him? ALot of areas in the US require this for all pet cats now. It would sure help in tracking down waywar furries!

Lili is, the boys aren't - the trouble is that it's only useful if he's LOST - the vets don't automatically scan any new cat that new customers bring in.

But I will get him (and Severus) chipped

I know this feeling only too well. My Giz went missing when a very small kitten for two nights and I was absolutely convinced I'd lost him, when a little boy brought him home. He'd been locked in a neighbour's garage. I really hope your Lucius turns up very soon. Let us know.

I hope by the time you read this it's irrelevant (hugs and pets).

My selfish bastard of a fat middle-aged cat went missing at the beginning of last winter and when he hadn't returned after a couple of weeks I figured, sadly, that he had fallen prey to some critter or machine. I was almost getting a grip on my sadness and guilt when the smug little twat came back, more than two months later. I still have no idea where he went or what he did, but as he came back much less sleek than he'd been, my spawn decided he'd been in some snazzy feline spa retreat.

I hope you don't have time or necessity to make up anything so elaborate! (More hugs and pets) (*Scowls fondly at svelte tabby.*)

Is Lucius neutered? If not, he may be roaming after some attractive tabby.

Even if he is neutered, it's not unusual for male cats to roam. One of my cats has taken off for as long as a week. Good luck, and I hope for Lucius' safe return.

Date: 2007-11-09 02:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] logophilos.livejournal.com
Second that. My spouse (who's owned a lot more cats than I have) says 2 is the normal age for cats to wander - and unneutered males are much mor prone to head off for a month or more at a time. He also says that at after such a short time, it's a bit early to worry he's gone, so I think you should be hopeful.
