Have to say that I do love sunny winter days. Even if it is bloody freezing.

I'm always seeing people around the net saying that they'd write lesbian fiction if it sold  - but why is it whenever I look at the gay/lesbian bestsellers on Amazon the preponderance of novels are lesbian fiction?

Why is there Pirates of the Carribean music on the Gladiators trailer?  I really don't fancy watching Gladiators AGAIN, just to see if the music is in the film.

The cats are not enjoying the Vick Rub I am liberally smeared with. Lucius is currently in my arms and is screwing his little face up as if to say "Is that pong coming from YOU? My watering eyes, let me show you them!" However he is not getting off, and is happily hindering my typing by resting his now not inconsiderable weight to my forearms. I swear I will look like Popeye eventually. Cat-typing-weightlifting. It should be a national pasttime. The voice is better, the sore throat is better and the cough will, I'm sure, linger for a while but hoo-yah I'm well enough to go back to work. Is this justice? However, I have just clambered out of a Vick's bath, so I'll see how I feel tomorrow.  I hate having Mondays off sick because I know that people think you are faking it.

I've just finished "The Journeyer" by J P Bowie, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it - I wasn't expecting to because there were a few things that annoyed me to start with, but it sort of sucked me in and I galloped through it.  What I suppose I liked most about it that it was a gay historical novel, with emphasis on the adventure and story and the history. The gay romance that weaves through it is almost incidental and I find I'm enjoying that more and more. I've read so many books where it's SEXSEXSEXSEXplotSEXSEXSEXplotSEXSEXSEX that I'm learning to appreciate the sort of gay historical where the story is more important than the relationship. Not that I don't enjoy a good old raunch when I need one, just don't need them ALL the time.

Am I evil for laughing my socks off at Maria's predicament in Coronation Street?

Poor pussies. "Mummy smells all poo!" I adore the smell of Vic. Then again, I'm not a cat :/

I was concerned that there wasn't enough SEX in Second Chances and that was a bad thing. I've come round to the idea that the main character's journey is much more important though. :)

Corrie...No, we've been doing the exact same thing. She waited long enough before attempting to go for help. Then after falling in the river, her hair was still perfect!

*giggling*

If there was ever a candidate for "runs like a girl" - she was it. And I admit to laughing so hard when she fell in the river. Yes - don't point that girl at a CASTLE because she'd be the one who would wait UNTIL it was dark before approaching it.

I suppose part of the story vs sex is depending on who you are writing it for, but reviewing such a small genre, I read a wide spread of "hot" values. As I said, I do like da sex, but - as you say quite rightly - it needs to be relevant. Or that's what I think anyway. I know other don't care, but then I say "why bother to put a plot in there then? Just write something like 120 days of Sodom."

I've tried just about everything for coughs etc and I reverted to my childhood and tried Vic last time and found it far more effective to cope with the coughing, specially at night. Also - keeps the cats off you when you are trying to sleep. Always a bonus!

:)

I totally agree with you, my erastes.

If somebody can write that sort of story/novel from new/unique aspect, I'll appreciate it highly.
I need high grade ones.

Maybe there's just so few lesbian fiction that everyone who likes to read it, will buy the same books (therefore bestsellers), whereas with gay fiction there is so much more that the buyers will spread over much more titles?
Also, maybe the audience for the books on Amazon is just a different audience than those these writers are writing for?

I'm not sure, but wasn't the composer for both movies Hans Zimmer? I know he wrote the music for Pirates.

We were spotting the errors in continuity and laughing. They're supposed to be in Windermere but a lot of it was shot in Keswick...and the Keswick Mountain Rescue didn't even have Cumbrian accents! (Of course, that's not a requirement to join but you would have thought they would be from the area). At least I'll have some reprieve with Sense & Sensibility :)

LOL, I started writing it for me...to get my anger out and then it all morphed into something else completely and I realised that more ppl might want to read it. Oh yes da sex is good...and is very relevant to the storyline. *taps nose* They can't be at it all the time as there's a distinct barrier between them. *smirk*

I love Olbas Oil too. I put it on my pillow/chest even if I'm having trouble sleeping and have no cold to speak of, hehe. I have a thing for relaxing smells.

Gees Linctus Pastilles, if judiciously applied, will stick a cork in your hacking through an entire opera. No feline-offending reek and a faint, herbal taste - actually quite pleasant. This one has been a stinker - I coughed so hard I thought I'd shake my teeth loose.

The Bowie was entertaining but I recall a certain dissatisfaction on finishing it - not enough sex?! I find the difference between the gay historical fiction published in the 1970s and that of today quite striking: the earlier books have just as much sex but their vocabulary is oblique rather than anatomical, if you know what I mean. The result can be more erotic than the current fashion of providing step-by-step instructions with an uneasy mix of clinical and obscene terminology. I guess I want sex-scenes, not a sex-manual. For a psychological study of a conflicted m/m relationship with remarkably few anatomical parts in evidence, I would recommend Lolah Burford's Edward, Edward.

How LOLSpeak creeps into the vocabulary.

Even the ones that aren't by Sarah Waters? I dunno. Fashion? Maybe lesbians and pseudo lesbians read more.

I just think it's interesting - specially as so many of authors in my direct circles say "oh i'd write it if it sold" but it obviously does.

I've been meaning to get Edward Edward for a while - it's on "The List" but happily, the list expands more quickly than I can read it

Yep. Usually the music used in trailers is not actually from the advertised movie because the score is one of the last things added to a movie and is rarely finished at the point that trailers are put together. It's always kind of funny to see when the music is something really recognizable from something else.
