Junction X and general catch up
Oct. 8th, 2011 11:52 am1. Junction X is up on Cheyenne Publishing’s site – not for pre-order yet, but soon. But there’s a lovely cover if you haven’t already seen it, and LOOK!!!! Look who said something amazing about it. I’m hugely flattered, and Englishly embarrassed. but happy.
2. I broke Sasha. Or rather she broke herself. She is absolutely toy obsessed (seriously don’t think she’d ever had one before) and when she’s retrieving, she can’t see anything else but that tunnel vision. The other day she must have bashed into one of the terracotta tile edging that Dad has in the garden and gashed her lower lip. It probably needed a stitch, as it was bleeding like mad for a few minutes (which she didn’t care about, I only noticed because her legs were covered in blood) but it did heal up and—keeping it clean and as dry as I can, it’s healing nicely, although she’ll have a butch scar to show off to the other Staffies and pretend she got it in a dog fight.
3. I lost an entire chapter of “I Knew Him” which has entirely gutted me. I’d been finding the book hard enough to write as it was, but I had written a few thousand words this year and part of that was – in my opinion, anyway – a pretty good section set at breakfast, in the village pub and in a wood. And it’s all gone. I know how I did it too. You see I have a stupid superstition where, instead of starting a new chapter I delete all the text apart from the chapter number and replace it with the new number. Don’t ask me why I do this, it’s purely superstitiuon and I try and tell myself I’m not superstitious. Anyway, when I saved it, I must have saved it as something other than chapter 16. Ho hum. I’m trying to re-create it now, but you know (if this has happened to you) that it never seems as good the second time around.
