OMG - where have they been all my life? Someone went to Oz and brought back a bag and they are heavenly. Perhaps because they are fresh or something?  I could LIVE on them. My mother was a nut fiend, and I weep that she never tried these.

Frost Fair: Things I learned I did not know:

1 How to spell rhinoscerous (of courserous!)
2 How to find a decent map of the Strand area in 1814
3 That Brooks' club was founded by Macaronis.(gleeful)

1080 words today. Very pleased and I has passed 6k.

Rhinocerous is spelled without the "S" in teh US.

Macadamia nuts are yum, but if you eat a lot of them do not travel far from the loo.

Macadamias (aka Queensland Nuts! :D) are THE BEST THING EVER.

Pure bliss, whether roasted or straight out of the shells (which are round, about the size of chestnuts and as hard as rocks. They need a bench vise or a hammer to crack, but well worth the effort.)

I love macadamia nuts, especially turned into butter! All you have to do is throw them in the food processor and process them until they're smooth (I sometimes add a tiny bit of honey to the butter for flavor). Spread over skinny crisp bread, it makes a really good breakfast. /unsolicited recipe

Macadamias are also pleasant substitutes for other nuts in recipes - but you can bet many times more expensive, in the UK! You can rough-grind them instead of cashews into a roasted red pepper dip, or coat a nice fish fillet with them and grill/panfry. Just enjoy eating them straight, I guess.

But not like that in Canada, hey? Rhinoceros!!

I think I'm... discovering that....

Ooops!

That's such a good Novel Title: "27 Macaronis."

Macadamias were recommended for a snack back when I tried the Atkins diet. So I dutifully went out (to Holland & Barrett, I think) and bought a bag, and absolutely HATED them. No flavour at all to speak of! Maybe I just got a bad batch?

My favourite nuts are the honey-roast cashews. Alas.

As I say, I think these must have been really really fresh, they were utterly wonderful.

Happily, macadamia nut butter can be found in stores. :) It's just more expensive than I think it should be, so I like to make my own (after buying the nuts in bulk, of course, because they don't come cheap).

Good stuff!!!! 1080 words is excellent. Some days I struggle to make a few pages, then other days I'm racing to keep up with it...it's odd how that works...

Me too. I'm thinking that perhaps having an outline is actually helping (who knew?!!!!) as this is the first time I've worked like this (knowing what was going to happen)

You have never had Macadamia nuts before? I love them in clusters in chocolate:) A local candy company makes chocolate Easter eggs with Macadamia nuts in them.

My mother made delicious cookies with macadamia nuts and white chocolate chunks not terribly long ago. Mmm.

Out of curiosity, where did you find a decent map of the Strand area in 1814? I'm looking for Mayfair c. 1815-6.

Oh I love macca nuts! Sadly, the last time I ate them in any quantity, I came out in a rash! So that's Brazils and Maccas that don't love me anymore! *sob*

Hey I love you're researching my time period. All this stuff may come in handy for me one day if I ever leave the countryside settings...

Fresh white chocolate macadamia nut biscuits?

Oh My God.

Heaven, sheer heaven.

You can also get macs from Hawaii -- where they tend to either have them plain, roasted, or salted with some sort of garlic or spice and oh look I'm going to be late to work again. What a shame.......

I just never go down the nuts aisle you see, and I'd never try a new nut (specially an expensive one) on the off-chance!
