[livejournal.com profile] wildestranger just pointed this convention out to me - looks smallish but interesting.  [livejournal.com profile] connotations  I was thinking about contacting them to see if they wanted a panel on gay historical fiction - particularly from the view of ex-fanficcers / converting fiction etc.  Anyone fancy doing that with me? [livejournal.com profile] alex_beecroft? [livejournal.com profile] mylodon?

MEME: (baaaa) Well, we won't point out that the picture looks like two women, but I'm surprised at the result. I really thought I'd get Hamlet, perhaps that wasn't an option. I spit on the notion that I'm romantic. (denial)

Romeo & Juliet
You scored 54% = Tragic, 28% = Comic, 41% = Romantic, 31% = Historic

You are the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Perhaps one of Shakespeare's most memorable works, Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two star-crossed lovers of warring families and their untimely deaths in each other's arms. What your score tells us about you is that you are most likely a romantic person who is willing to go to extremes for the ones you love. For this, your family and friends love and respect you (even if they may tease you from time to time). While you may be a bit of a fickle-heart, you are also a spontaneous and adventurous person with a big heart and a lot of love to give. We certainly love you, and we're sure that a lot of other people do too!

The diary's free so far for that weekend, and I could certainly do the subject, although it's a long haul from here to Newcy.

It is a very long way! But on the other hand it sounds amazing. I'd certainly like to try. Mind you, I've never been to a con, so I have no idea of what to do! What does giving a panel involve?

Whereabouts do you live, if I can ask? We might be able to share the drive? I'm near Cambridge.

The hotel looks cool - on the cliffs.

I have no idea, to be honest. I assume its just a talk and then fielding questions from the floor, I'll have to ask around!

I'll fire them off an email and see what they say, if they are interested.

Sounds good :) It's probably not a financially sound thing for me to do (I worked out that I'd have to sell 85 books to recoup petrol and hotel fees). But if mylodon and I could work out some kind of car-share, that would not only be a lot more fun, but suddenly make it potentially at least break even :)

Interesting. I got Romeo & Juliet ... changed some answers, still got R&J... then went back, refreshed, did the same answers as time #1 but did not put in Helena B Carter... and got Henry V. Methinks there's a rat i' the arras...

Your Score: Henry V

You scored 31% = Tragic, 39% = Comic, 24% = Romantic, 46% = Historic

You are Henry V. Set during the Battle of Agincourt during the Hundred Years War, Henry V tells the true story of Henry V of England. Perhaps Shakespeare's most famous and most performed History, Henry V is an epic drama filled with war, treason, heroism and bravery. From your results, we know you are undoubtedly noble and courageous. You probably also have a strong sense of honor and duty, as well as a devout love for your Country and an extreme loyalty to your friends. Your bravery never falters, even when it seems like the odds are stacked against you. Your friends probably look up to you and are proud to have met you. We sure are!

well it looks less likely - they can't give me an answer on whether the panel would be accepted until August, which is a bit daft, as the hotel will be booked solid by then, and then they only offer me the chance to moderate the discussion. It might have been fun, but I think perhaps we should save our pennies and go and do a literary convention, fancy Hay on Wye next year perhaps?

Just outside Romsey, so with other commitments in mind, I'd have to fly, which becomes a bit pricey....

Funnily enough I was wondering about Hay on Wye! I have a friend who lives there, and as it's a book festival and we have books to promote... I might ask her whether she thinks the border counties are ready for m/m :)

Oh, btw, I've started a blog with the people from the Britwriter forum: http://britwriters.1.forumer.com/index.php?act=idx
I don't know if you'd be interested in occasionally being involved with that?

I've also been pondering about whether we could possibly do something as a big group - like Hey on Wye, or even taking a pitch at one of those great big County Shows that are coming up, to do joint promotion. There would be economies of scale, if there were lots of us :) Mind you, so far pondering is about as far as it's got.

Ah well, it looks as though it's not on, which is probably just as well :) Maybe we can do something of our own, if not this year then next.

It looks like you can't just "book a table" at Hay - looks like the writers are invited, who attend.

But I'd be definitely interested in going to something next year, I think it will be "the right time" to start physically pimping the stuff around, if the Perseus Books come out in Spring next year.

I love to be included in the blog! Thank you!

For some reason the blog is not recognising erastesdotcom, so I added you as Erastes@erastes.com I hope that's OK :)
