from [livejournal.com profile] tharain - An online petition attempting to get a million signatures to support gay marriage in America.  They are nearly there, too, 984,884 and growing fast. Such fun to refresh!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bouncy I discovered Gmail 2 and Firefox 3 and they are brilliant. It has a Livejournal interface, you can change the skin, and the attachment icons are the pictures of the type of attachment. SO much better. Plus there's a "take a break button" which cuts you off from the net for 15 minutes - something this procrastinator badly needed.

After Elton turned my article down on gay historical fiction - said the tone didn't suit the site. Anyone know of another publication I could send it to?

Thank you all for your suggestions for a tag line for "The Macaronis" - the overwhelming vote came in with "The Macaronis - Historical Fiction out of the closet" which was suggested by [livejournal.com profile] marquesate - Thank you! It's ok if we use it? And can we give you something as a prize? A download of Speak Its Name perhaps?

OK. Writing now. *determined face*

I find it funny After Elton turned it down...so I guess Superhero Sub-text Spandex speculation and endless rounds of Torchwood walk-through's are really more their style. :/ Oh yeah, and let's see another article on Yaoi.

Gehayi suggested that it was probably a bit serious - which it was - but they didn't give me any guidelines.

Have you tried any of the gay print publications--like Out magazine, or The Advocate? After Elton is really more showbiz, and until some brave filmmaker cashes in on the combination of m/m love and sexy period dress, gay historical isn't going to be on that radar.

List of magazines over here: http://www.allyoucanread.com/index.asp?idCat=529

Well, that's cheesy--especially if they didn't tell you what needed to be fixed. But I'll bet they just got something else in that was more topical. Sigh.

hm I have both firefox 3 and gmail 2 but I don't see any take a break button. It's not April 1 so I am assuming this is not a joke. Can you clue me in on how/where to find the button?

Mine is at the top, in gmail - next to settings, on the right

I found it!

The take a break button has to be enabled in gmail 2 in order for you to see it. To enable, click "settings" at the top of the page, go to "Labs" and scroll down, you will find the Take a break (it's called "Email Addict") in the list there. Click enable, go to the bottom of the page and save changes.

When you return to your inbox the button now shows up next to settings on the top right hand side of the page.

Thanks for letting us know about this! It's a great idea!

Are you looking for paying or non paying markets for your article? If you're happy to just have the coverage I'd suggest Forbidden Fruit - we're always looking for well written non-fiction. :)

Preferably paying - this was going to be $300 - so hence the disappointment!!

Erastes,
I suggest Lambda Book Report by the Lambda Literary Foundation. lambdaliterary.org

It's a shame they didn't offer a kill fee.

I hope this helps,
Ellen

He did offer one, to be honest, but I didn't take him up on it. Daft I know - but if he's that dissatisfied with the work, I'd rather not take it.

Thanks - I'll try them!
