Film Night and maps
Oct. 24th, 2008 10:34 pmWent to see Ghost Town. Now, let me say right up front, I am NOT a fan of Ricky Gervaise. I don't get his humour. I am of the opinion that he's not in the least funny - and that he's having the rest of us on - people laugh at him because they are told he is funny. The Emperor's New Clothes of modern humour. Office: Unfunny. Extras: no. Please. He's exactly the same person in any role, same as he is on any chat show, uncharismatic, rude and... just don't get him.
BUT - that being said - despite the fact that I was sitting there like Esme Weatherwax with my arms folded thinking "go on, make me laugh" - and despite that I only laughed twice, and neither time at Mr Gervaise -it was an enjoyable film, the kind of quiet unassuming comedy that perhaps Jimmy Stewart made (one of the not terribly great ones). Stewart often played roles where he wasn't funny but the world around him became funny because he interracted with it. I'm not really comparing Stewart to Gervaise, though!
However - there's not an original thought in it - if you've seen Groundhog Day, or Scrooge, then you've seen this film already.
Next week BOND!!!!! On my birthday! *fans self*
I suggested to my editor that Transgressions might be better with a map of the southern and eastern counties of England printed in it, and she agrees. She doesn't know the logistics or cost of having this done but she's going to go and investigate.Whoop! Can't talk about the editing, as it's hell on earth. *glum*
