Frost Fair now available on UK Amazon. And the price (£7.25) isn't that much more expensive than the American version-when you take shipping into consideration. Huzzah!

The new novel is creaking into being, and (shock!) I've actually created character sheets - something that I've been promising to do with my books since the beginning and never have.  Perhaps this will prevent people's name's changing half way through and their eye colour fluctuating like a neon sign. Can't really say much about it at the moment, but it's 18th century, NOT bloody Regency. As much as I love the Regency, I really don't want to be typecast as "'er wot writes them Regencies" and I want to explore lots of eras. Of course then I complain like billio about the research but if I wasn't complaining, you wouldn't love me.

I'm playing www.travian.com - is anyone else?  It's the first time I've played a "god" like game and I'm finding that I don't have the patience for it (no surprise there, eh?)  I don't want to "wait until tomorrow" to build another building. I WANT TO DO IT NOW! I want a big army so I can raid and pillage and raze everyone else's villages around!  and I want to do it now! However as I only have two legionnaires and one rat, I can't see any pillaging happening any time soon, and there's a slightly bigger village a bit too close to me for my liking...And they are Teutons! Argh!

The Devil's Whore was wonderful to watch, yet again. The photography alone deserves every award they can throw at it, together with the costumes, the sets, etc etc.  BUT.... It's like having sex with a beautiful but shallow person, really unsatisfying in a way that it simply shouldn't be, and I can't put my finger on exactly why. I love that Angelica is "period pretty" rather than "now pretty" (although she should be a little plumper, I think, but well - there is a war on, I suppose) and I love the eternal grubbyness of everything (although I do look at the hems a lot and thing that they could be grubbier) and John Simms is a god and Michael Fassbender is sex on legs of course...

Best quote from a friend about the series: From Janine Ashbless. "Oddly I think I fancy Cromwell best ... neither rough as a badger's butt nor too Christ-like. Of course next week he's going to start massacring people, which can put you off a guy..."

*laughs*  One thing that concerned me, and I'm sure someone can confirm this - Rainsborough says "I'll go off and be an American" - was that a term back then? Even when we owned the country?

Frost Fair - should I order through amazon and boost your ranking or would it be more favourable for you if I ordered elsewhere?

Goodness, I don't know... my business head doesn't work like that - order wherever it is easier for you, hun.

It's on the German site too - wouldn't that be easier?

I hardly ever order through amazon Germany, so I can add Frost Fair to my next order from amazon UK. To me, it all makes little difference where I order from, but beside buying books because I enjoy them, I also try to support the authors' promotion if I know them. :)

Ahh, I found a torrent site. One stop shopping, since it has Merlin, too.
(Was that husband Harry a bit on the walking-complex, useless side, or was that just me?)
The men all look like Norwegian pagan metallers. Lovely! :)

Yes, it was - and he quotes John Donne (My America, my new found land!) in bed, which makes him even more sexy. ;) I really need to write a long post about why I love this show.

I'm going to get Frost Fair when Amazon.ca has it - they haven't got it yet, but they should have it soonest. I'm really looking forward to reading it! :)

Hurray for Amazon.co.uk with its 'nah, you don't have to pay for postage' scheme! I have much glee for being able to buy the book, but it makes it better when I don't have to pay for stamps :D

Also hurray for your next book! I had a flash of inspiration myself this morning for what I should do for my Perseus option book, so there must be something in the air :)

I've been thinking about going for the Prime - I'm sure that it would save me money in the long run... Means I could order a few prize copies without having to ship 'em from the states, at least!

Oh good for you! AoS?

No, they said they didn't want any more AoS for fear of making it look more like an AoS line than a historical line. So I thought Anglo-Saxon for a change :)

Yes, I'm on the Prime, and it's great. I definitely order enough stuff for it to pay for itself, and it's even better now LBR's books are available in the UK.

You'd think they say something about going off to the colonies or something.

Yes, or "go to America" it sort of surprised me that he talked about it as if he was changing nationality.

I didn't even know John Simm was in it until last night whilst I was on the loo and I'd switched the TV on in the bedroom. (I'm sad like that and need company whilst taking a pee). Needless to say I haven't started to watch it yet and now I have the urge even more to with teh Simm being there. *g*

So for ppl in the UK...they get their friends to order in the US and send over here then, lol?

I found with my latest I had to create a similar sort of list. I've made up casts before but not written the story to go with them, but this is one where each person gets dumped on a list the moment they appear - especially because the most random ones turn out to be important.

Date: 2008-11-29 03:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com
Well, I don't do that - make a cast list, I never see the point, unless you are writing something like George R R Martin's saga, of course! In fact, nothing puts me off a book more than having a cast list before I actually start the book - but I am putting character details into a word document, if only to keep their family trees straight and their eye colour consistent.

Date: 2008-11-29 03:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] penelopefriday.livejournal.com
Ah, well, there was never actually intended to be books to go with the cast lists - I just have an extremely strong obsession with names, and rather enjoy making up families ;)

This possibly just makes me a bit sad, mind. I've never before needed to do it with a novel, because I've been pretty confident on knowing everyone. But these lot keep having random small parts and there's no way I'm necessarily going to remember which indigent family are the ones with the sick daughter and which are the ones with the field dispute...

Just dropping a note to say that Frost Fair is now up on Amazon Japan. I'm excited, though it did take several tries for my order of Standish to go through. Speaking of which: you do know that Standish is ranked 15th in gay/lesbian books in English here in Japan? (this is *amazing* because as you can see, the market is flooded with translations of many many Japanese boyslove novels). Standish also has one glowing review with 5 stars from a gal called Midori *g*

How exciting! And no, I hadn't checked the Japan ratings of Standish for quite some time - It's nice to see that it's got a star rating too!

Thank you!
