Things I love today:

1. The internet. I'm struggling to describe the house I have in mind for Mere Mortals (I think I'll have to visit it, anyway, it's in Peterborough) and I go and search on line and find... a floor plan! Just fabulous. Now I can write about it as if I were there.

2. Patrick O'Brian. I'm just getting started with his Aubrey books, but he just makes me laugh so much. A lot of the naval terms I'm struggling with, thank god for Maturin, that he explains stuff to him and I can pick things up, but now and then he makes a really funny joke, and it's just really appreciated.

3. You Lot. Thank you for your kind comments the other day. You rock.

Off to bed.

Patrick O'Brian is a phenomenon. Until you mentioned it the other day I had forgotten how incredibly funny he can be. And the character of Stephen Maturin was a stroke of genius. He's easily the most intelligent of the regular cast, but so flummoxed by naval terminology he makes the most land-lubberish reader feel a bit less dim at needing the same explanations the Doctor does.

I love the way he keeps falling in the water. :) And it's an excellent ruse to have a landlubber on ship who is just as baffled at the sea speak as I am.

Which house would that be? I know of one, called Peckover House (which is Georgian and looks glorious )in that general area, but not of any others.

I hope you're feeling as ok as can be expected, too.

Admit it, Erastes, you only want to go for the 'Priest's hole interpretation with visual displays', but alas, it will not be what you imagine!
