There are no pictures of two men in English Civil War clothes kissing. Anywhere.

Is this fair?

Jeez, for the money to be able to set up a photography business!

Dear Gay Men everywhere. I know many of you are extroverts and that you love to post pictures of yourselves online.  Please. PLEASE, for the sanity of gay historical authors everywhere, would you consider renting some historical costumes from time to time and taking some pictures of yourselves snogging?  It would be gratefully appreciated by many of us, you know. And I guarantee you'll enjoy the experience.

Much love,

Erastes

Alas, I think Tom and Teddy do mostly Regency or Mediaeval. I don't think they have any Civil War garb...

it would be too late now, anyway - but I would pay professional rates for historical snogging. Stockphotos have plenty of men, just none in costume. Am trying to find something to suit "abomination"...

*hugs to Tom and Teddy*

Hmm, you would have to foto manip pics taken from "The Devil's Whore", I guess.

But at least there's the rather lovely Compton/Tallis bits in The Tudors series, no? I know, different era and all. But that was a lovely moment of m/m on prime time telly, methought.

I doubt there are any ECW snoggage - Storm Cloud and Solid Snake, yes... Not that I'd say no to that, but not much good for book covers and trailers!!

I didn't see the Tudors, I'll have to see if I can find some screencaps. I've found an almost kiss from "To Kill a King" but Tim Roth isn't exactly hot...

The Tudors had/have lots of supremely slashy moments; some overt, some implied - but Compton/Tallis is realised to the fullest - you even get to see them in bed together.

This is a really wonderful scene.

I kind of lost patience with the series after some 8 episodes, but why not try this for size?

Utterly unjust... but the hats of the period seem large to the point that your guys wouldn't be able to get in snogging distance without the risk of losing an eye, and the clothes seem fairly basic.

You probably don't have local glbt-support groups in the area, but a couple of years ago in Columbus I met a guy at a Pride festival who was trying to break into pron and amenable to the idea of posing for cover pics as a way of getting his *koff* face out in public. With all the gay-photo sites... maybe there's someone you could contact who'd pass your request on to some of the men who post their pics there?

Have to barge in here. Rather off-topic but, I wonder how many viewers of "The Tudors", while enjoying the slashyness of this particular coupling, truly realize just *who* Thomas Tallis was?

One of the supremely great composers of that, or any, era. A giant of music.

Er. I was quite aware of that. :) Now what I'd really love to see in a series is how dear olde Gesualdo did in his wife and her lover. ;)

I've passed the request on to Teddy, who is the one with an online presence! As a suggestion, really - if they haven't got Civil War garb and/or pics of them embracing in it, would they know anyone who had? (Plus a note that the SK is useless...)

I didn't doubt that you were. :)

Like I said, though, I really do wonder about most viewers. For me, at least, it lends the whole thing a bit more frisson.

Now as for poor Don Carlo...

Thank you, hun - perhaps they can encourage someone to come up with a "snogging in costume" photography sideline!

I'd call a British drama school (http://sites.stocksphere.com/cds/articles.asp?articleid=15). Most of them have notice boards where they post small jobs in the industry for students. You said you'd pay professional rates; I'm sure for a small fee, you'd find two perfectly hot male actors willing to pose however you like. And all drama schools have costume departments or connections to theaters, so the right garb might not be much of a problem.

BTW, I friended you, I hope that's okay?

I'm more than happy that you friended me - no-one has to ask, it's always a real happiness. I may just go that route, thank you!

I was very disappointed, actually -- I wanted a lovely soppy romantic kiss, and I got an emotionally fraught one instead, and they were FAR more decorous in bed together than any of the het couples.

I'm sticking with Jack and Ianto.

Now I'm going to have to draw them.

Sadly not to the standard you require but it'll be fun anyway.

Now of course, that's the other option. When I think of all the wonderful fanartists there were in fandom, If I were a publisher I'd be approaching these people!

I look forward to what you come up with! Maybe one day: Transgressions: the illustrated edition!!!

I did a 'graphic novel' for [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge a few years ago. Hard work but SUCH fun. I remember when adult books had pictures - fantastic engravings from pen and ink drawings. That sort of thing would be so appropriate for historical romances.
