Just to let anyone know who might be interested, I'm NOT transferring to OMG IT'S THE NEW BLACK Dreamwidth.  I've taken six? years to establish this LJ and I'm staying right here. There might be advertising here that I don't agree with, but there is advertising on American TV that I don't agree with too, would that mean I wouldn't watch American TV if I was in America?  There are videos on Youtube that I don't agree with - does that mean I don't watch videos there? There are views on the Goldbergs blogs that I find I'm opposed to but I don't stop reading blogs because of that.  Basically LJ is a business, same as anything else. I advertise gay sex on my website - I wouldn't expect any fundies to cancel their accounts because of me. If I get pissed off enough to leave I'll simply cancel this account and continue to use my weblog, which is what I should be using full-time anyway.

I've seen these fads come and go a dozen times. Last time it was Insane Journal I think, or Greatest Journal.or Deadjournal - I can't keep up.

I've bought myself a seed account on Dreamwidth, because the money for a paid account may not be there in the future and I *can* squeeze it out of the savings now. But I'm not emigrating, just using it as another sidestep like I did IJ. And nothing to do with the ads on LJ - I don't see them on the MacBook anyway, though I do on the PC, but I ignore them the same way I ignore TV ads and newspaper ads.

Since there's a cross-posting function built into Dreamwidth, I may start, at least, by posting a lot of stuff there and cross-posting it to LJ; but I'm thinking whether I want to separate out my activities anyway. I already post only very-fandom-related stuff at IJ, particularly if it's got anything in it that LJ might find 'objectionable' - though with those ads, I really don't think they can point fingers!

I'm staying here to until my flist gets so sparse that I HAVE to emigrate or lose touch with them all. I like LJ, stupid adverts and all, because it's familiar and comfortable, like an old pair of jeans.

Dreamwidth is exciting at the moment because of the invitations - like Gmail when it first started, or Live Journal at one time or Skyehawke. Having an account then was a bit of a cachet, but it soon becomes old hat.

Thank the Lord for that!

I may or may not. I've not been thrilled with LJ for a long time, and I'd rather join DW (though I keep seeing it as Dr Who) than Facebook or Twitter. It isn't necessarily either/or, though.

Yeah this is my main journal, I have had my LJ for almost 5 years and not going anywhere, though I do like to have my name snatched up at these other places and someone gave me a code so...

but this is home for better or for worse. :)

Thank goodness. Do people even see the ads if they have a paid account? I don't think I ever have.

I don't blame you; I still consider LJ to be my main journal. I do like the DW folks' philosophy of site-building and want to support it, though, and it seems like a better back-up option for me than IJ—but I haven't availed myself of the DW Kool-Aid.

Right. Livejournal is too entrenched. And eventually dreamwidth will have to start using advertising too...like facebook had to. I am not switching.

Hear hear on all counts.

We're getting perilously close, as well, to doing what we condemn among other people - eliminating the right to free, reasonable speech. It's like that contestant on the beauty show who caused all the rumpus - I may not agree with what she said but I'd defend to the hilt her right to say it in the way she did.
