I’m very pleased with the review of Transgressions I received this morning. It’s a big site - “All About Romance” and it got a “B” which I’m very pleased with.

I like review sites that really review a book in depth; so many of them do précis précis précis and then have one sentence saying “I liked this.” And we all know there are many sites that LOVE everything, so you have no idea whether they liked it or not. But this one is a nice review, and I’m very happy with getting a B from them, because, like Dear Author, they are tough to please.

The note about the POV switching is fair critique, as it was a problem I had when I first started writing – the reviewer notes that it fades later in the book, and the reason for this is that the book was written over a 3 year period and my writing improved, and POV switches is something I eradicated.

Anyway, the review is HERE! (The cover on the review isn’t a mistake, that appears on all their pages and is part of their advertising, I think)

That is a wonderful review!!! Congratulations - it sounds like she really "got" what the book was about. :)

I was particularly pleased with the bit where she said it was like the older type of historical fiction, and that the characters acted as if they were of the period.

Yes - that was something that struck me, too - her emphasis on how the characters were of that era...that's very important and not a lot of writers can make that happen.

Of course I fangirl you regularly so there you are. :D

Borders have actually got their act together and let you use giftcards online. I've had one for ages and hardly ever go to the shop. So, I ordered Frost Fair today! *skips*

Congratulations!

She may have given the book a B, but that's a great review--someone who actually appreciates the notion of historical accuracy. I think your books will eventually have a wider readership, outside the strictly-romance audience, because they really are historical novels whose characters happen to be gay than 'gay historicals.'

I'm very happy with a B - they don't give A's often, and I know the book had flaws. It was hugely flattering to be compared to historical fiction, and the fact that she pointed out that the characters acted in tune to the time.
