Regarding the GLBT Bookshelf
May. 23rd, 2009 01:27 pmI’ve had a couple of queries about registration and approval and this is Mel Keegan’s response:
“Ummm ... people think they have to be approved?! Not at all -- the two-part registration process is actually to deter gay-bashers who would take a great pleasure in getting in and deleting the whole wiki before anyone could stop them! It occurred to us very early on that there are some very unpleasant folks on the web who would take an absolute delight in wreaking havoc among us, if they could self-register, destroy everything and vanish, all within an hour, in the middle of the night Aussie time, when no administrator saw a thing. A two-step registration process won't keep out a real bastard, but it means no one can be destructive on a kneejerk ... such destructive behavior ought to be a bit less common when the real idiots out there think, "Oh, someone might be watching!"
“Anyway, that was the logic behind it -- would you like to pass this on?”
Which I have done – hope that makes it clear.
Lots of people are joining, and it is free to join, so come over and register!
