I have just dictated an entire page of mere mortals (and this post) in speech recognition and although it was a little difficult at first it is becoming easier and easier!  I've even learned how to switch from one application to another, and have taught it several filthy words which it appears he did not know.  It can now say fuck without me having to type it in myself —and several other words which I hope my neighbours didn't hear me saying over and over again!

I have done my post for the week on Jessewave’s blog.  This week, I have blogged about point of view, the different sorts although not in too much detail, saying a little about my favourite point of view which is omniscient and asking the readers what their favourite point of view is and their least favourite.  The link is Here

What are you using for speech rec? And I'm really interested to know how it FEELS to use it--you know, how you switch your mind from writing/typing mode to speaking in prose. It just sounds impossible to me, but I'm so curious to try it. I'd really like to know more.

i have to say my experimentation with speech rec in the nineties was an abysmal failure. I couldn't even get past the first fricking word.

I said: Congratulations, you are now ready to use *the program*

And it typed:

Con gradual Asians. (every damned time.)

i'm using the speech recog that came with Vista (I beleive that the previous OS had it too) and I think that it's a matter of practice as to whehter it can be done - i never thought i'd be able to do it, and it's certainly very slow, but then i write slowly anyway, tend to write a sentence and stare at it for ten minutes!

*laughs* yes - me and enolabloodygay did that in the 90s we never even got that far, we got about five sentences in, and ended up shouting at it. this is very very responsive and actually learns from its mistakes! scary... It knows my characters names Crispin (which it wanted to put as Christian) Myles (Miles) and Jude (Jew)

New Vista computer on its way. I'm going to break out of my comfort zone and give this a try! Thank you.

Lol! I was just about to post and ask 'Do you remember when we tried to teach mine?' and you beat me to it!!

And I thought we were both actually fairly well-spoken with very little accent - which either shows how much I know about accents or how little that ancient speech recognition programme (not American, OK? Ergo, it's not a program - don't care if that makes me wrong.)did.

Wish I had one that worked now - typing hurts!
