Brr. Chilly today. Sunny but coooold. I really want central heating. I've never ever had central heating. (other than living with parents.) I feel deprived.
Went to the opticians this morning, spent an hour in a darkened room with a man who spent half an hour peering into my eyes from point blank range. It was rather disconcerting. Haven't been that close to a man for a long time. If I'd been in a book (and a man) I'd have had an erection. TMI? possibly. *snorts*
Apparently there is a "change in pigmentation" at the back of my eyes. I have no clue what this means, and I have to go and see a specialist. Ick. Have new very cheap spex. I hate wearing glasses.
Cor what a moaning post. Sorry!

Date: 2009-11-10 07:50 pm (UTC)I have to see a specialist too, my interocular pressure is like a point over the top of the range beyond which they refer you to a consultant. If I have to use eyedrops I'm screwed. I'm very eye-squeamish!

Date: 2009-11-10 08:57 pm (UTC)I've been doing some medical searching, but unless the optician said anything more about it (and an optician might not be qualified to do anything but refer you--you'll probably need an ophthalmologist), there's no telling exactly what it would mean. A few salient bits:
The pigment's necessary for normal vision, but can change for various non-dangerous reasons and then go back to normal.
There are some references to pigment change during and after pregnancy. I didn't find any perimenopause or menopausal references, but that makes me think it could possibly be related to normal hormone shifts. Here's hoping.
The single biggest item coming up was pigment changes as a temporary side-effect of antibiotics, some of the fairly common, like Tetracycline. If you've taken any meds lately, be sure to have that info when you go back for a more thorough exam.
And yeah, there were a few godawful cases that turned up, but oddly enough they seem to happen mostly in males, and they're pretty damned rare, so with any decent luck it'll be something inconsequential.
Keeping fingers crossed!

Date: 2009-11-10 10:26 pm (UTC)I hate glasses too. I had contacts, but one was near and one was far and I couldn't use the computer so I went back to contacts. Anyway, you complain so seldom that you're entitled to moan once in a while!
My oldest granddaughter could read when she was four. One time when she was having a checkup the doctor asked if she knew her letters. So he asked her to read the eye chart on the wall. She burst into tears. "I can't read it! I can't read it!" she wailed. We were sick, thinking she must have serious vision problems. After several minutes of that the reason was unearthed: the poor little thing was trying to make words out of the scrambled letters on the chart.

Best of luck, dear friend! Hopefully whatever it is, it will improve soon.
