I haven’t posted about this popularity contest, but I’m drumming up some support now for Elisa Rolle’s fun cover contest because at the moment there’s two covers in the lead (Clippings, and the Janitor) which I really don’t like.  I don’t want you to necessarily vote for Frost Fair (although I do think it’s a beautiful cover by Alex Beecroft) but if Clippings wins I’ll be rather surprised. It’s not at all beautiful.  There are some fabulous covers there, though.  I particularly like Hemovore and House of Swallows but my ultimate vote went to FLIGHT which is just beautiful.  Each to his own, though, eh?

I actually think that many publishers are taking on board the fact that we don’t all want a poser or a two naked men cover – there’s some real diversity in this little group – and it’s good that people are stopping equating gay fiction = sex.

I admit to chortling very hard during a game of Metal Gear Solid when my handler said “Quick, Snake, he’s about to be dragged off by the PMCs!”

Now that could be very painful, I’d say. Yes – I’m 12.

Many people have snow—and they are wantonly waving it at me on Livejournal. It’s really not fair.  Yes,  i know I hate the cold, but if I’m going to be cold, I’d like it to be fore a good reason, like SNOW.

I love Anton duBeck. That is all. Bath time now and The Catch Trap which the very kind Jessewave sent me all the way from Canadia. :)

RE the cover contest: I know! Are people voting for their favorite books and/or artists they want to promote in general or is my taste just that frigging far off from the norm? I don't get the contest in general and what it takes to move to the next level (some with lower votes than others moved forward a couple levels ago while the ones with more votes didn't, so apparently there's more to it than just votes), so between that and the wtf-itude of some of the biggest vote getters I've quit voting (or caring).

RE snow: Again, I know! Darn it. I grew up in an area with lots of snow and it was so much fun (as a kid, anyway). Where I live now it's just bitter cold. We get some snow, and the fools here don't know how to deal with it, but it's not usually good wet/fun snow. =(

Hmmm. That cover (Clippings) was definitely not to my taste. Alex's cover is much nicer. I voted. I hope the pretty wins!

What are PMCs? I don't think I know that abbreviation.

I hope that the pretty wins, too.

What are PMCs? I'm picturing some variety of military police walking in, grabbing Snake under his arms and dragging him backwards down a hall to solitary confinement, throwing him in and just leaving him there.

I voted. And we don't have snow but we have cold. I prefer it that way. I love cold weather but hate snow. Which is why I moved home to Arkansas from NYC. Arkansas doesn't get much snow and if we get any, everything shuts down and I don't have to leave my house. In NYC, the trains never stopped so I had to go to work in the yucky mess! LOL

i think it stands for para military corps - and thats what was happening -- to the guy that snake was tailing--but i was smuttily taking it as a euphemism for a tender part of the anatomy!

Ah. That's what I thought you meant... Anything can be made smutty if you try hard enough (:

I'll ship you some snow. We look like we're going to have lots of it (again). But thankfully not as much as last year. By this time we had forty or so centimeters of the stuff. Right now it's only at 3mm.

I think the whole breaking-things-into-groups at random does not wind up getting the best of anything--a lot of good covers, and books, were eliminated that way. Why not just have an open field and take the top (n) for each elimination?

There are at least two covers in this 'semifinal' that look like lousy fan art. And I hope Elisa's got some way of checking for cheating, because the high number on that wretched "Clippings" cover just doesn't make sense. It may be a fine book, but that cover is just awful.
