Brr. Who

We had more snow overnight, and being freezing cold it’s been on the ground all day. Which is pretty without being dangerous and inconvenient. Perfick. The birds have every available feast and aren’t really taking advantage of it. I think perhaps I overfeed them… I should have started to worry when they simply toppled off the birdtable, so full of lard they couldn’t flap their fat little wings.

I have tea and crumpets.

Doctor Who. Yes, I loved it.

I know there’s been a lot of bitching and moaning about it but *shrugs* I loved it.  I admit that I could have done without the self-indulgent goodbye section, but that’s exactly what Ten would have done, given the time.  I don’t remember how the other doctor’s died/regenerated but I doubt they had the time to go and do the things they wanted to do—and that seemed very real to me. (Although – let’s be honest, he’s got a bloody time machine, he could have died, regenerated and gone and done that stuff at any point – that’s the trouble with time machines.)

ALSO… Rose had met him in her past.  That’s interfering with his own time line (which he’s always saying he’s not allowed to do) AND she didn’t recognise him in the Christmas Invasion, so RTD gets a black mark there.

I shall miss Ten, but DT did a fabulous job, imho, and at least he stayed with the part for a nice long time. Hope Smith does the same.

Matt Smith looks hugely promising, I already have shivers of older Doctors coming from him, so—like Tennant—he’s obviously studied the part well. I saw a little of many Doctors in that little piece, together with things all his own.  Loving the whole “STILL NOT GINGER” refrain – Dear Stephan Moffat, kindly consider Damian Lewis for Twelve – he’s ginger and he’d be perfect. He could play it very much stiff and proper, and slightly older too. Shades of Hartnell.

I know it wasn’t done, but I think that RTD missed a golden opportunity with Cribbins.  He was a companion once before after all, in the Doctor that no-one takes as kosher – Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 -the film with Peter Cushing.  If I’d been writing it, I’d have included this—make Wilf the person he was in the film, and have him lost the memory of it. Then suddenly he remembers and Ten would say: “Ah. Yes.  No.  That wasn’t me.  Sort of a Timey-Wimey wobble.  We don’t talk about it.”  It would make me laugh anyway, sort of like the way that Worf “explained” why the Klingons once didn’t have forehead ridges.

I liked it too, and I'm glad I'm not the only one. Yes, there were self-indulgent bits and bits that made me headdesk, but Tennant was brilliant and those last scenes with Wilf made me tear up. In fact, all the scenes with Wilf were marvellous.

I watched Dr Who last night. I have never watched Dr Who since that Pertwee man left *hides* He was my favourite and couldn't bring myself to watch anyone else. But...the new doctor is rather intruiging o.O I might have to investigate.

I haz choccy cake *nom* and is listening to Elbow. I think you may like them. They've been around since ancient times but I only got to know about them this year via Brian Molko's rec.

Well, you've missed a treat, I think. All the new Doctors have been brilliant--RTD is a lifelong fan (and gay--hurrah) and the care of the canon really shows. I'm hoping that Matt Smith might turn into a bit of dandy like Pertwee.

I haven't seen the second part of the Doctor Who yet, because I'm stuck in the states. Blah. My baby will find it for me because he is good with the internets and is Doctor who nut as much as me plus Jack is in it. *grin* and he knows how much I love JB. But I wanted to show this.

When they cast Matt Smith I was hoping they'd end up with an older companion. An older actor that is, obviously the character would be younger than the Doctor, which would make for an interesting dynamic.

I liked the goodbye section. I did think the Rose but was a little bit rum, but he did stay in the shadows. She wouldn't have recognised him, surely.

Also, I think the Dr should regenerate next time into Mick Hucknall if you want him to be ginger so badly : )

I haven't liked 10 at all - largely due to the way he was written rather than DT's performance - but like you I was quite impressed by the quick snatch of 11. He did seem recognisable as a Doctor, which is quite a feat in the ten seconds or so that he had.

I just finished watching a little bit ago on BBC America. (Good call on letting them show it so soon!! and I loved it too though the Mickey Martha thing was a little Bwah? for me. lol.
I am already for Matt Smith:) and damn I still miss not seeing Damian Lewis on my TV weekly. I enjoyed "Life".

And I was muchly pleased with the "ginger" thing recurring. Now, I've been assuming that that originated with Pratchett, but it has occurred to me only lately that as his books are entirely made up of clever little nods to all and sundry, did he get it from somewhere too? Maybe even an earlier Doctor I didn't happen to see?
