Am watching "De-Lovely" - biopic of Cole Porter and full of lovely lovely gay men.

HOW HAVE I MISSED THIS FILM? Barrowman and Kline.... *combusts*

Definitely going to buy the DVD and review for Speak Its name. Cole Porter's music has been my favourite since I was about 14. When my friends were into the Bay City Rollers I was singing "What is this thing called love."

It's a fantastic film - gotta love Kline and Barrowman!! I love Kline in In and Out, too.

He's (KK) hugely underused and under appreciated imho - although he may just be fussy about his scripts. I haven't seen anything I don't like him in.

Barrowman was in that?! Damn, now I have to go back and rent it again. (And this time stay awake.)

Yes - I wasn't actually watching it with full attention so I don't know the name of his character but he was the guy that Porter teaches to sing "Night and Day" properly and they have an affair. it's all so beautifully subtle.

I love Cole Porter too so I seized on the soundtrack before the movie even came out. And then not only didn't see the movie, but gave the CD away. It was that disappointing. I hope the movie stood up better than the CD did on its own.

Have you heard "John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter?" One of my favorite writing CDs.

I enjoyed it, it's a little quirky and some of the numbers (particularly Be A Clown) don't come off, but I really enjoyed it.

I seem to remember telling you years ago to watch this movie. YEARS ago!! lol. I have this movie on DVD.

Also you should read a bio on George Cukor, who was a top notch director and well known in Hollywood for his weekend Men Only parties.

I suck! :) I certainly will. I think Hollywood is a goldmine for gay historical fiction - Jamie Craig has recently done one "Sticks and Stones" but there are very few others that I know of. Men were often known to be gay and got away with a lifestyle, and were protected by the system until the 50s it seems.

Oh I was so surprised reading over the years how many people were gay and openly so in the Golden Age of Hollywood. Not that the studios let them be totally out but they could live their lives.

However some, like James Whale would not be kept in the closet and I would love to find some good bios on William Haines, who was a big silent movie star and ended up leaving movies and becoming an interior designer when he met the love of his life, James Shields.

Have you come across John Barrowman's CD of Cole Porter songs. I think it's the best stuff he's ever recorded. (And yes, he does 'What is this thing called love'.)

If it doesn't live up to my billing I will personally refund you!
