But then it is. Hugely.  I know this will resonate – for good reasons and bad, with many of my writerly friends.

And is there anything you can do when someone KEEPS inviting you to be a FAN of his on facebook and you really really don’t?  Other than being horribly rude?

I still need Swedish help…Seems like no-one speaks Swedish.  I am not going to learn Swedish for one word. I shall get it wrong and risk ridicule and then it won’t be the best book ever. :)

Thanks! I shall bookmark that.

It says "dricka"

BUT - you see - I don't know whether that's correct. I need to be sure that what they are shouting the ORDER "DRINK!!" rather than just describing liquid that one can put in one's mouth. Granted, it's the same word here, but it might be entirely different in Sweden.

I know - I'M ENTIRELY TOO ANAL!!!!! but readers take pleasure in pointing out one's errors like this.

But until I have any other proof to the contrary, I shall use dricka.

Thanks again!

I found a Swedish Course online made by an actual Swedish person living in Stockholm. There is an email link at the bottom of the page. I bet if you emailed him and asked him about it, he would tell you the proper phrase. Here is the link to the page.

Hope he can/will help you.

If the other suggestions don't work [livejournal.com profile] fran_fic speaks Swedish. She lives in Sweden and it is her first language. She is very nice and if you pm her I bet she would be happy to help.

There isn't anything you can do, beyond just not responding at all. If you don't respond they can't reissue an invite, but it means you have dud invites stacked up on your notify page. I wish FB would put something in place for that, both as someone who despises receiving multiples of such, and as someone who invites to fan pages with vague reference for having already invited someone. I wish FB would track that, cos I think a lot of people do it without realizing.

If you go to the 'requests' page (there's links to the various bits of it at the top right of the main page), you can find the request from that person and not only can you click the button to 'Ignore' for that specific request, there's also a link just below for 'Ignore all invitations from this person'.

Simples.

Ahahahahahaha! Brilliant video!

Isn't there a "ban" function on Facebook?

I don't think so - not for people - you can block apps - but I'll go and look again.

I have invite requests stacking up on Facebook because I don't know who the people in question are. And no one really talks over at Facebook (like over at LJ) so there's no opportunity to figure out who the requesters are. I keep wondering: Who the hell are you people? How do you know who I am?

That video was priceless! Yes, almost not funny, but yet hysterical.

Sadly, though, it reminds me of a woman with whom I work who self-pubbed a book and sports it around like it's "the best book ever." My heart breaks for her. She refused to have it edited (because it's the best book ever) Standing at 650 pages, it contains duplicate paragraphs, type-o's, sequence of events mixed up and the list goes on. Her "publisher" required her to buy I think 1,000 copies up front.

Regarding translations, I use http://www.freetranslation.com when I need something small translated (the bane of my existence is French--why, oh why did I choose to place my characters in France). But when I need something serious translated, I nag a colleague of mine who is French. I keep promising him that one day I will stop bastardizing his beautiful language and learn to actually speak it. He chuckles at me, but appreciates I've learned a few phrases.
