more bloody railways
Mar. 13th, 2010 09:46 pmI’ve been driving myself MAD today over Prussian railways. My characters are in 1860’s Jicin (Gitschin that was) and are heading for Berlin. Now, looking at the map, it sort of makes sense that they’d go to Prague, and thence to Berlin – but if there was no railway from Jicin to Prague it seems to make more sense if they head due north to Berlin – as it’s 200 miles to Prague, almost entirely due east and then 200 miles north to Berlin.
Argh.
It seems that there was no railway in Jicin before the Austro-Franco war, so they’ll have to go north. Shame, I’d have liked them to go to Prague. Dresden doesn’t seem as decadent, somehow. Research. BAH!!! Off I go to research Dresden….
