XD Your game tastes and mine are so different! But it's always nice to have friends who are gamers :)

I can't say much about DAO, but if you can find a secondhand copy that's pretty cheap, then why not go for it? XD

Dragon Age Origins looks like it's tricky: you have to plan strategy not only for your own character (who can be a city elf [an elf whose people have been enslaved for centuries]; a dalish elf [one of the few remaining free elves]; a dwarf commoner [who's working for the Dwarven Mafia--yes, REALLY]; a dwarf noble [second in line to the throne]; a human noble [whose older brother is about to go off and join the king]; or a mage [about to undergo a battle in a realm populated by demons]) but to build up a successful team of NPCs around your character. (A tank, a rogue, a combat mage and a healing mage all look like they're essential.) And from what I've read, you have to plan the power distribution for those characters as well. You'll need a balanced party.

It looks like most of the quests--regular and side quests--are either battles or involve obtaining objects you'll need for battle-related stuff (like killing a prisoner to get a key to open a chest, or taming a dog that will show up again much later in the game, getting various armor sets, etc.). There are also four assassination quests.

Oh, and these are the recommended system requirements for the game:

Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz)/AMD Phenom II X3 720 (2.8 GHz)
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 20 GB Free
Video Memory: 512 MB (nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS/ATI Radeon HD 3850)
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 10
Keyboard & Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

So it looks like you'd need a lot of spare space on your hard drive for this. And a good video card. The graphics are incredibly detailed.

Also, it's not complete--Bioware created an expansion pack for it called Dragon Age Awakenings that just came out...which costs about 40 bucks and only adds thirteen hours of play to the game. And it looks like there might be another expansion add-in in a year or so.

Bottom line...it looks like a good game, but it also looks like you need a lot of space on your hard drive to operate it, and that it might be a memory hog. YMMV, since it depends on how much space and memory you've got.

Oh - I wouldn't get the PC version. I can't be doing with PC games under they are very simple mouse controlled point and clicks - I'd get the PS3 version - a slight lack of graphic detail, the reviews say, but hardly noticeable - and you don't have to worry about whethe ryou need a whole new machine just to run it - or whether you'll need a dozen patches just to get through the bugs. *makes face* No thank you!

It does seem rather too complicated--game-wise, though, I'm not really a natural RPG player. The whole "have I got the right sword? and if so, has it got the right magick on it?" is just too dull for me. I think i'll wait until it's very very cheap, then try it....

I think i'll wait until it's very cheap, it seems a bit too complex - and a bit too much fighting.

Yeah, I'm not great at the whole "I need a mathematically-based long-term strategy to make this character viable", either.

And it does look fairly complicated.

Have you tried the Witcher, it's the same people who did Dragon Age, STO (which I am now hopelessly addicted to) and Mass effect (same engine too) but follows one character but has something like 30 different endings and because it's older it means it's like £10 on the pc

what struck me is after about ten hours I started to find Geralt really sexy, go figure
it's not as big as DA:O but it's not small either
and the books are great fun

also because he's a neutral witcher (hence the title) you can choose to do anything you want, including abandoning the quest

I just got the Kingdom Hearts game for my Nintendo DSi. I love games in that mode and would love to try Assassin's Creed but alas, having young kids in the house limits my gaming choices:)

I'll have a look - I don't like to weigh my PC down with games, but it sounds interesting - thanks!

Think of all the fun you have to look forward when they are gone and you can buy the consoles and games so cheaply!!!

Nick is already a gaming geek, he didn't want to go to school this morning he just wanted to play his one spiderman game on the Playstation.
He has already asked when he can play games like Dante's Inferno and God of War which are both rated mature. I said maybe by 12 or 13. I was allowed to watch rated R movies by then. :)
