I have ordered a Dongle from British Telecom. Something they don’t advertise, as is always the way when they think they can get you to order two lots of Broadband in two different houses (which I very nearly did) but something they offer for £40 on off payment to existing customers! Considering that other wifi dongles are from £15 a month, it will soon pay for itself. It’s like the Sky Digi Box which you can buy free and clear for £100, they don’t advertise that either. Not an expense I can afford, but necessary, I simply can’t go on without being able to research when and if I need it. Muffled Drum is full of CHECK THIS and ETYMOLOGY? and PRUSSIAN NAME? and HOW LONG FROM DRES TO BERLIN BY TRAIN and a hundred other notations. Yes, I know it will also help my procrastination, but I do that ANYWAY, constantly trying to get a wifi hotspot.

I watched the new “The Wolfman” last night, and have to say I really really enjoyed it. I can see many reasons why other people didn’t – as far as can see it went straight to DVD over here, and I was looking forward to seeing it at the cinema – it’s slow paced, hugely beautifully gothic, and follows the basic Hammer Horror premise with Lon Chaney Jr which I always LOVED LOVED LOVED. Lawrence Talbot, the tortured “I’m a monster” character full of guilt which has been copied by just about every werewolf writer (JKR I’m looking at YOU) since. I loved the Talbot character, he had just the right amount of silence and angst and quiet understated movement. I also loved the way they stuck to a Wolf Man with the same dodgy doggy face people as in the original films. Whoever made it obviously was as big a fan as me. :D Hopkins was great and Weaving wasn’t bad either. Of course there was The Obligatory Flossie™ who was pointless and entirely irritating, and yay – lined up for a sequel, which I don’t suppose will ever get made.

Muffled Drum is nearly done. (boom boom) If I can stop them shouting at each other that is.

I really wanted to see The Wolfman, but it only stuck around cinemas here for a week or so and I missed it, much to my disappointment. Glad to hear it's good, though! I've had it on the list of films to rent.

well i don't know if people who weren't fans of Chaney's films would find it as enjoyable as I did.

HUGELY gory though - I had my eyes shut for 99 percent of that!!

Hmm, fair enough. I never saw his Wolfman, but I did see his Phantom of the Opera and found it lots of fun. Basically, what I heard about it was that if you go in expecting exactly the sort of film a title like 'The Wolfman' implies, you'll enjoy it.

It’s like the Sky Digi Box which you can buy free and clear for £100,

What Sky digibox and what does it give you? Have you got a link? Is there a HD box available?

tons of free channels, far more than freeview

Ah, I was wondering if it was freesat related. We've got a freesat box as it's impossible to get freeview (that's steep glacial valleys for you) and the previous owners of our house were kind enough to leave us a satellite dish.

Husband insisted on spending more than I thought was necessary on it when we moved in, but it turns out that's because it's got a network point on the back so we can now watch iplayer stuff straight onto the TV. Woo!

We watched The Wolfman the other night also. I *loved* the art direction and basically really enjoyed the entire film.

But...the ending absolutely left me cold. What should have been shattering was...meh.

Still, all and all, definitely worth a watch.

And it *was* extremely gory (but I got a kick out of the severed arm flying through the air, landing, and then firing the pistol.)

yes--i agree with you about the ending--if there had to be teh lurve story then at least convince us it exists (or better still have a bromance which would have been more touching)--i don't mean anything other than friendship, but Abeline could have got to know Talbot, and found that they liked and respected each other instead of the flatfoot vs the suspect. I'd have found that in keeping with the pathos of the originals when it was then Talbot who infected Abeline. But there was no convincing love story between Flossie (can't even remember her name it was so forgettable) and Talbot.

Heh - i missed the flying arm. The flying heads were more than i could stand.

I did take suitable relish out of the Scientist Packed Lunch symposium though. :)

A FB friend said I've love Wolfman knowing what I'm like over Hammer Horror stuff. I saw the trailer for it the other day and want to see it. I adore Hopkins. Who else is in it? They need to remake Dracula in the same vein...um...light, hehe.

Hugo Elrond, and Del Toro (never heard of him but he's very good) don't know who the Flossie was. Geraldine Chaplin was the GYPSY WOMAN OF DOOM and she was almost the same as the Hammer version it was great!

Ohh, Benecio (sp?) He's v sexy. I've seen him in a few films but can't remember names. I'm a bit crap like that. In some photos he looks like the 'acting' version of Steve Hewitt (Placebo's ex-drummer and now fronting Love Amongst Ruin..*pimpimp*)

I watched Wolfman last night because of your review and holy crap I loved that movie! It was so dark and brooding and fucked up, and there were a few moments I was genuinely scared. I definitely wish I had seen in that one in the theater.

eeee! i'm so pleased! I dread that people might hate things I recommend as it's obvious that my taste doesn't exactly concur with 99 percent of people! Fucked up is SOOO right. I loved the whole Daddy issue thing, they could have dragged that out for another hour for my money. It was hugely fanfic Remus/Fenrir I suppose, that's what i loved about it. :D
