Magnum Gold

Let me extol to you the glories of the Magnum Gold.  I should explain that I am a real ice-lolly addict and have always been, but the new Magnum has blown me away to an extent I never thought I would be blown.

OK. The Magnum Gold. Let me count the ways in which this bloweth my mind.

1. The chocolate on the outside is GOLD. Not yellow, not light brown. But shimmering, shiny gold. The colour of aged gold leaf. Am-a-zing. That in itself was enough to make me sit and stare at it for a minute.

2. underneath the layer of gold is a layer of dark and not bitter chocolate. As I’m not a fan of dark chocolate this is good.

3. The ice-cream is pure creamy vanilla—at first I was disappointed that there weren’t actual vanilla seeds like in the Magnum White… but what’s this?  it has a tang of… toffee!

4. Hidden within the heart of the ice cream is a lovely generous swirl of golden toffee, in fact! And a touch of Cornish cream. GAH!

ABSOLUTE HEAVEN i tell you. This is why I’m only allowing myself one a week.

I love the very idea that somewhere, in this world, hidden away, are Magnum Boffins whose sole job it is to create a better Magnum.

On a related note, before the ice creams became Brand Names in the 90’s there were just ordinary ones. Does anyone remember (in the UK) a banana flavoured one with a toffee centre? It was heaven. BUT WHAT THE HELL WAS IT CALLED? It’s driving me bonkers.

And here, to soothe your soul, are some wild poppies from the roadside on my commute. It’s a tough job, mine.

Oh I've had one of these. Just spectacular. I also remember the banana toffee things and, no, can't remember the name either. Odd how the name of something much loved just fades away.

I let myself fall off the low carb wagon once a week to have something evil. This looks and sounds extremely evil. :D Can see myself having one this week.

Ice-creams, particularly things like that, are sadly on my 'can't afford them' list. But I'll let you eat one for me instead. Aren't I generous? *g*

Well, you have trips abroad, and I can't afford a trip to London without help, so we are probably even there.

I am tempted to buy them in bulk in case they disappear.

Heh. I'm getting my trip abroad this year (to the German filk con in October) thanks to an anonymous benefactor; and if I get to Cyprus again it'll only be because Mum's paid my fare. Couldn't afford it on my own, no way.

If I get the full Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit (or at least 75%), I might treat myself to a Magnum.

Let us think about the practicality of limiting ourselves to one a week if they LURK IN BULK.

In my case, it would not be pretteh.

Funny you should post this on the same day that I share my first ever experience with vanilla cola.

That one is out here too. I thought it was just yellow. Any idea how they made it gold? What does gold even taste like? I am intrigued! If the sun comes back I'll try one of those.

I've managed to get [livejournal.com profile] lexitus a little bit hooked on turtle ice cream. He looked funny when I first told him what the name would be in english. :D But really it's just ice cream with this chocolate thing with caramel in it and some sort of rum-y cream thing and they're called Turtles (or Skildpadder, actually, but...)

I kinda wish I could send you some now.

I imagine it's gold food colouring/paint. It's possible to buy gold dust, leaf, and flakes for use in food products, but it's horrendously expensive (I can't give precise figures right now because that catalogue's in my car, but I'll try & remember to come back & give some figures if you're interested)

Now that you mention it, I remember I've heard of gold/silver coloured food stuff before. I've never seen it though, much less eaten it. It doesn't really scream 'edible' does it. (...said the woman who will happily eat sweets coloured bright blue)
