Weather a LITTLE more bearable today. Last night was appalling. I had a bowl of water beside me and had to tip some over my head at regular intervals. Lucius has discovered that if I sponge his head with cool water this is helping him cool down, so whenever I’m in the bathroom he marches in for a swift cool sponge around the ears. He’s a bright cat, that one. Lili however – being born in Spain – thinks it’s not hot ENOUGH and hasn’t even started to moult yet.

I have created a spreadsheet for “I Knew Him” – it was originally for the word count, which is horribly anal of me, and now it has character’s names on it! This is progress – at least people shouldn’t change names in mid paragraph any more. Famus last words. Hit 13,000 words today. *beams*

Thank you gehayi and rikibeth for my super special Thunder Egg. :D

Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today!

Awwwww! Kitty sponge bath! I wish I'd thought of that when Boannan was alive. She might have appreciated that too in summer with the all the fur she had to drag around.

I've filled a bucket of cold water for my feet. Half an hour and the heat and the body heat of my feet had made it lukewarm. Difficult to keep up with this kind of weather.

He really seems to like it, as soon as I go into the bathroom and perch on the bath, he leaps into my arms, so I take that as a request now. And he'd run off if he didn't enjoy it, not stay in my arms and purr?

I take it the weather is unseasonably hot for England? Weird. It's July here, and usually the humidity has us dripping but at the same time we're often in the beginning of a summer draught that turns the grass brown and crunchy. We haven't had the A/C on for two days! Windows open, grass still green. I'd ask what your temperature has been running but you'd tell me in Celcius so I still wouldn't know. lol

It's mid-70's Farenheit here. Usually up around 90 F.

But according to the Conservatives the weather isn't changing at all.

This is the third summer in a row where the grass has stayed green into the fall (that is, if this continues. It could change, of course, and we could still have crunchy grass.)

Cats & Meerkats

I love the idea of a water-loving cat. They're funny little critters. With all that fur, you'd think they'd be sweltering but ours spends most of the day in the sunniest window and moves around the house as the day progresses, following the sun. We used to have one that would lie with her nose almost touching a portable heater, and sleep.

Makes you wonder why a poor dog pants and slobbers and suffers from heat and cats don't. Of course, if you asked a cat it would merely smirk as if to say, "Because we're superior."

I love your Meerkat picture. Where'd you find it?

Ooh, I know this one - part of it anyway! Panting is one of the ways dogs deal with heat, so it's not a sign that they are suffering as such - though if it's hot enough of course they will be - just that they are using it to cool down.

And cats have less trouble than dogs since they are generally smaller than most dogs and smaller animals have more surface area relative to their body size than larger ones. More surface area = more heat loss. So cats are would have more trouble with cold than heat, at least in comparison to dogs.

My husband keeps talking temperatures in Fahrenheit. He usually works away during the week (the company he works for has their offices about 160 miles from where we live) so he experiences quite different weather. he came home this week complaining that their A/C had broken so temperatures were "in the 90s". My reply was "either you were literally boiling, or you're talking in a temperature scale I don't understand again!"

I don't why it is that, even though there's only 2 1/2 years between us, he sticks with Fahrenheit while I only understand Celsius (except when it comes to ovens, when I use F & he uses C!)

The meerkat picture is from this advert: which is a series of car insurance adverts which have really taken off in the UK - the narrator is "Aleksander" who is a Russian Meerkat (he explains how this came to be, the great grub famine caused his ancestor to migrate) who lives with Sergei. :D (Ostenibly his manservant, but I think we know better from Aleksander's clothes)

Its a brillaint campaign - there's even a website, where you can compare meerkats.

Aw, bless Lucius. Puss seems to have found a new 'special place' under the hedge in the back garden where he is nice and cool and can accidentally watch birdies.

I find during the night when I get up to pee...washing hands...and face now. I don't dry my face...I let the fan in the bedroom do that. It's lovely.

That's awful. It's 13C here right now and it hasn't been much warmer than that all year. We pretty much skipped spring and are now working on skipping summer. Congrats on the words!
